About the role

Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Welder to join our Plant & Fleet business unit to work site based in Bottesford.

Role Purpose:

  • To manufacture, maintain and repair non mechanical plant & equipment where required.

What you'll be doing

As a Welder you will:

  • Always follow the Balfour Beatty 4 Golden Rules;
  • Ensure the depot is kept clean and tidy at all times;
  • Ensure relevant task briefings have been carried out prior to tasks undertaken;
  • On taking instructions, if unsure always question and learn;
  • Willingness to learn from others and pro-actively listen;
  • Displays a positive attitude and show willingness;
  • Work toward technique qualification;
  • To ensure the works are carried out in the most efficient and safe manner;
  • Demonstrate positive attitude and behaviour towards safety and others;
  • Report all near misses, hazards or observations via the hotline and to the Supervisor;
  • Follow company/manufacturers procedures to ensure standards are met;
  • Have an active involvement in creating and updating procedures as required;
  • Notify the Chargehand of any matters that affect the progress of works (including breakdowns & damages, etc.);
  • Ensure maintenance/inspection checks are carried out, reports are correctly completed on time and submitted;
  • Make sure the quality and quantity of work produced is at required levels;
  • Responsible for own quality control for work carried out;
  • Be pro-active and think ahead by working closely with Chargehands & Supervisors;
  • Actively & positively participate in Daily Activity Briefings and all relevant team briefings;
  • Able to communicate clearly to a range of people and departments to facilitate repairs;
  • Good understanding and knowledge of different processes and equipment;
  • Be prepared to work overtime/flexible on breaks as required;
  • Demonstrate the Balfour Beatty Behaviours (6 Es);
  • Be able to contribute good ideas for business improvement;
  • Willingness to teach others and share knowledge when necessary;
  • Constant collaboration with relevant team members;
  • Willingness to learn from others and pro-actively listen;
  • On taking instructions, if unsure always question and learn;
  • Ability to lead by example;
  • Able to work unsupervised;
  • Utilise problem solving skills to resolve issues as they arise;
  • Be capable to take on Chargehand responsibilities and duties on a temporary basis as and when required.

Who we're looking for

Personal Qualities and Experience:

The following qualities/experience are essential:
  • Ability to work as part of a team;
  • Proactively challenge and be challenged where appropriate;
  • Punctuality;
  • Basic English and Maths skills to attend College;
  • Good communication skills (to all levels including Supervisors);
  • Knowledge of using and clear understanding of work package plans, method statements, procedures, risk assessments and site specific rules (including lift plans);
  • Willingness to go the extra mile;
  • Be a role model for others.
The following qualities/experience are desirable:
  • Interest in Fabrication;
  • Driving licence;
  • Slinger/Signaller CPCS card (all duties);
  • Multi-skilled (for example Traffic Marshall, Manual Handling, etc.);
  • Relevant manufacture/supplier training where required;
  • Basic knowledge of piling techniques in all disciplines;
  • Multi-skilled (for example Appointed Person, Lift Supervisor, etc.).
