Do you have the passion, values, and ability to help us solve the biggest problems of the justice system?Criminal Court and Sentencing Data & Statistics Analyst (SEO), Courts and People, Data & Analysis, Ministry of JusticeOverviewWe have a role available in the Criminal Justice and Outcomes Statistics team, within the Data Directorate.The role is open to:Existing analysts from all professions (GORS/GSS/GSR/GES) either on level transfer or on promotion. The nature of the role is such that it likely best suits a member of the GSS, or somebody with similar skills.Specialist allowanceDue to the role being analytical, those successful in recruitment will be eligible for a specialist allowance following an analytical interview based on the following values: SEO London: 500 SEO National: 1500 Minimum requirements to apply:Candidates must be able to show the relevant experience and skills and must meet the criteria for entry:SEO grade:You have significant work experience evidencing use of data and/or analytical skills. Time spent on an analytical degree or PhD can count towards this.We welcome applications from candidates based across the UK. Candidates will have the option of being based in the Leeds or London HQ offices (with flexible working arrangements available) or your nearest Justice Collaboration Centre or Justice Satellite Office. These are based at the following JCCs: Cardiff, Leeds, Nottingham, South Tyneside, Brighton, Ipswich and Liverpool, and the following JSOs: Ashford, Beverley, Haverfordwest, Hull, Merthyr Tydfil, Manchester, Newport, Birmingham, Sheffield, North Shields, Bristol, Wolverhampton, Weston-Super-Mare, Stafford, Truro, Winchester and Leeds.Alternative locations may be available and will be discussed and agreed on the completion of background checks.Interviews are likely to take place in late January 2025 and will be held via MS Teams. The post holder will have line management responsibility for between 1 and 3 members of the team. Additional responsibilities will include:Support the delivery of data for a range of key uses including playing a key role in overseeing and delivering key data outputs, e.g., quarterly accredited official statistics publications, monthly management information, ad-hoc requests from policy teams and press office.Deliver analysis with insight across the whole criminal court system and support this by developing key relationships with a range of policy teams. Expanding the departments understanding of the criminal courts data pipeline leading the team in delivering new insight, filling evidence gaps and expanding the range of stakeholders our data can reach.Developing data pipelines with data experts and data specialists across the analytical community (MOJ and HMCTS) representing the team and ensuring our interests are communicated appropriately.Develop our dissemination offer and build sustainable, informative and engaging data tools/dashboards to deliver more timely and accessible insight for users.Lead and oversee the frequent parliamentary questions and freedom of information requests coming into the team.Play a key role in the team, deputising as required for the Grade 7, and understand when and how to delegate to the team, refer upwards and seek guidance.Who you areThe following experience and skills will be required:Knowledge of the criminal justice system and experience using software such as SQL, R and python.Experience of working with criminal justice data and an understanding of the policy and operational landscape of the criminal courts and His Majestys Courts and Tribunal Service.Analytical ability in particular robust quality assurance, ability to analyse data and draw sound inferences from it.Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to engage with and influence a range of stakeholders, using analysis.The ability to make sound judgments and to present the results of your analysis with impact and clearly to a non-technical audience.Ability to plan and prioritise workload independently and develop solutions proactively with challenging timelines and competing demands.The following experience and skills are desirable:Knowledge of court data systems such as Libra, XHIBIT and Common Platform.Ability to act on own initiative and understanding of when to involve others or refer upwards.Experience of managing and developing others, prioritising and delegating tasks in line with organisational objectives.How to applyYoull need to submit a Statement of Suitability as part of your application.Your Statement of Suitability should be no more than 750 words and should give us examples of how your skills and experience match those needed for this role.
