Your key responsibilities will be to:

Interpret and set the departments Customs and Duty tax policy; regularly reviewing and updating policy direction and guidance; including the development of bulk fuel Excise Duty policy

Set policy assurance requirements, working in conjunction with programme WATERGUARD, the MOD Customs Clearance Team and internal tax focal points

Act as the departments single point of contact with HMRC on Customs and Duty matters; maintaining an effective working relationship with HMRC Custom Compliance Manager and policy experts

Provide value for money advice to department customers, and to cross-government customers via the Tax Centre of Excellence, on the tax liability of proposals and options for Customs and Duty requirements as they develop; negotiating with HMRC to achieve agreed outcomesResponsibilitiesYou will communicate clearly and work collaboratively, not only within finance, but across the wider department and government. You will remain up to date both technically and with latest practices which will help in defining and adopting best in class practice in the MOD, thereby driving improved efficiencies.

You will have line management responsibility for 1x HEO/Band C2 post.
