Job Description

Working within the DI Technology and Export Assessment team, this post will provide intelligence-based technology assessments and technical support to the MOD and wider Whitehall counter-proliferation communities.

Our assessments reduce the risk of the UK unintentionally providing key assistance - in the form of equipment, technology and know-how - to countries with conventional military and/or WMD programmes of concern. This work involves working closely with colleagues from across the MOD, UK intelligence community and other government departments. Within this role there may also be opportunities to travel within the UK and overseas.

The post holder will contribute to our work in two areas. Using their specialist knowledge and the supplied intelligence material, the post holder will produce intelligence assessments of:

(1)Applications submitted by international students seeking to undertake post graduate study in the UK through the FCDO led Academic Technology Approval Scheme (https://www.gov.uk/guidance/academic-technology-approval-scheme). Our assessments seek to limit the transfer of Advanced Conventional Military and WMD-related technical skills to postgraduate students who wish to study at UK Universities.

(2)Applications submitted by UK companies and universities to export dual-use and military equipment and technology. Our assessments seek to minimise the risk to the UK Government and UK exporters under the Consolidated EU and National Arms Export Licensing Criteria. The post holder will produce all source assessment communicating the risks of applications. Our assessments consider various factors including the risks of diversion, compromising national security, reverse engineering and breaching the UKs international obligations and commitments.ResponsibilitiesPlease refer to attached job description
