Full Job Description attached – see belowResponsibilitiesWe are looking for a Senior Software Developer with extensive experience working within the .NET framework and who can also bring Python skills to the team, or who have a strong desire to learn and develop in Python.

You will join our Agile teams working on complex web applications making use of cloud environment services underpinning Microservice architectures. Experience of application containerisation, working with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform, and configuring CI/CD pipelines would be helpful but not essential as we will provide training in those.

Our developers have a vital role to play in growing our DDaT capability. In this senior role you will demonstrate excellent software development, interpersonal and team-working skills. You will also have a willingness to learn new skills across a range of technologies, and play an active role in helping us grow our digital capability, skills and culture. We provide the opportunity to use or learn a wide range of skills with excellent training and development opportunities and an agreed development plan.

Our offices are located in a beautiful setting by the River Thames in Kew with good transport links. Remote working is currently available but some on site working will be required in the future.

Annual Leave entitlement is 22 days in the first year, plus 10.5 days public and privilege leave. This rises to 25 days after the first year and by 1 day per year thereafter, up to a maximum of 30.

Significant experience of modern multi-tier software development. For this role in particular, good working knowledge of C# but with a willingness to learn or already have experience in Python. We will also consider applicants with knowledge of other object orientated programming languages wishing to further their career with C# and/or Python

Significant experience of working in multidisciplinary teams, developing digital services using agile methodologies (such as Scrum and Kanban) with demonstrable track record of delivering projects through the entire development life cycle

Knowledge of Test-driven development, unit, integration and acceptance testing and the principles of continuous integration and continuous delivery

In addition the following criteria will be assessed at interview:

Highly motivated with a proven ability to manage competing priorities and deliver to deadlines, working independently or as part of a multi-disciplinary team

Experience of mentoring, coaching and supporting colleagues with their career development

Have a passion for technology and a desire to develop yourself and the teams skills in any technologies that might benefit The National Archives

Good working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript and relevant W3C recommendations including those on accessibility

Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex and/or technical issues and concepts to non-specialists and to provide advice and guidance based on experience and sound judgment
