Job Description

Manage all designated procedures to assess patient's needs, adapting and modifying imaging techniques according to the patient's condition. Attending to patients' welfare and safety at all times To evaluate resultant images for quality, instigating remedial actions as appropriate and alert clinicians of any abnormality as appropriate, To be accountable for own professional actions and to act as a role model within the department, setting and maintaining high standards of professionalism and patient care and encouraging the development of a strong and flexible multi-disciplinary team. Regularly helping to develop and draft changes to Plain film protocols, ensuring best practice through evidence-based information To participate in the departmental Quality Assurance programme to ensure the efficient operation of the highly technical equipment, and to ensure compliance with best practice especially with reference to minimising radiation exposures. To be familiar with, understand and apply the principles of Radiation Safety, both nationally and locally regulated or protocol led. To give theoretical instruction, practical guidance, and supervision to less experienced staff, Apprentices, Student Radiographers and trainees, both Radiographic and Medical. To assist with departmental induction of newly appointed staff. To participate in the 'Out of Hours' and 'On call' rosters, in line with the departmental agreement, to support full service delivery. To support 7 day working service delivery. To support booking/reception staff when responding to queries generated by patients or staff regarding requests for specific modality examinations. To facilitate communication between the department and all service users, patients, relatives, staff and external users, including any adherence to Trust policies, including participation in annual appraisal/review systems. Communicate with patients and professional colleagues in situations that may be traumatic due to pressures of work or where the patients condition may be a barrier to comprehension and compliance, e.g. Claustrophobia, learning difficulties or injury traumatised. To assist in the implementation of all manual and electronic information systems ensuring consistently accurate data collection and recording, in support of standard data collection, performance activity, audit and Capacity and demand analysis. Recording patient dosimetry in compliance with local requirements for dose reference levels. To attend specialist MDT meetings and Radiologist audit meetings, contributing to peer review and specialist service redesign/modernisation planning. To actively pursue individual CPD maintain specialist awareness of imaging development and promote wider education/CPD by holding tutorials with Radiographic staff Professional autonomy and accountability: Able to practise within the legal and ethical boundaries of their profession. Able to practise in a non-discriminatory manner. Able to maintain confidentiality and obtain informed consent. Able to exercise a professional duty of care. Know the limits of their practice and when to seek advice. Recognise the need for effective self-management of workload and be able to practise accordingly. Understand the obligation to maintain fitness to practise. Understand the need for career-long self-directed learning Professional Relationships: Know the professional and personal scope of their practice and be able to make referrals where appropriate. Able to work, where appropriate, in partnership with other professionals, support staff, patients, clients and users, and their relatives and carers. To contribute effectively to work undertaken as part of a multi-disciplinary team Able to demonstrate effective and appropriate skills in communicating information, advice, instruction and professional opinion to colleagues, patients, clients, users, their relatives and carers. Understand the need for effective communication throughout the care of the patient, client or user Identification and assessment of health and social care needs: Able to gather and use appropriate information. Able to use appropriate assessment techniques. Able to undertake or arrange clinical investigations as appropriate. Able to analyse and evaluate the information collected. Clinical Governance: To participate in Clinical Audit and Research. To participate in the department Quality Assurance Programme. To be aware of the implications of COSHH and the Health and Safety at Work Act and ensure their guidelines are followed. To minimize hazards in the working area and report any identifiable hazards to the line manager. To adhere to all safe systems of work applicable to the work area. To participate in the investigation of complaints and untoward incidents. Education, Training and Development: To participate in pre and postgraduate training of qualified staff where appropriate. To regularly contribute to the departments CPD programme. To provide supervision to support staff as appropriate. To ensure that professional and technical knowledge and expertise is kept up to date by attending meetings and study days and by reading professional journals. Participate in Departmental Audit.
