Job summary

We are looking for a highly motivated Assistant Psychologist who is looking for a varied and exciting role within our Specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) here in Havant.

Main duties of the job

Working with longest waiting young people in Hampshire CAMHS, specifically on the ADHD assessment pathway and low mood and anxiety pathways.

Supporting a specific caseload of young people under appropriate supervision.

Contributing to service development opportunities, including research, audits and QI projects.

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team offering assessments and interventions to children, young people and families who have had some of the longest waits in our service, specifically for ADHD assessment and depression and anxiety.

Assistant Psychologists receive receive regular supervision from the Clinical Psychologist within the team, alongside development and support from line management and the wider service psychology structure.

There are regular training opportunities offered by the Trust and service.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Honours degree at 2:2 or above in Psychology, or equivalent.
  • Eligible for Graduate Basis for Chartership with the BPS

Desirable

  • Further post graduate training in relevant area of professional psychology, health and social care practice, and / or research design and analysis.

Experience

Essential

  • Relevant clinical and research skills
  • Experience of working as part of a team
  • Basic knowledge of databases, research skills and methodology
  • Ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to a health context
  • An understanding of psychology applied to health care

Desirable

  • Experience of working with people with complex needs
  • Experience of working with people with disabilities, in a health or Mental Health setting and or work with people with complex needs
  • Experience of the use of psychometric tests

  • To be able to communicate effectively under pressure and maintain a high degree of professionalism at all times
  • To be able to provide and receive complex sensitive or contentious information in a potentially highly emotive atmosphere.

  • To assimilate complex information and use reflective/analytic thinking, to apply psychological perspectives in work in a healthcare setting

  • Ability to work independently and know when to ask for and use supervision, identifying when there is need for advice and using supervision at agreed interval
