We are currently looking for a Civilian Dental Practitioner to take up a position here at Uniacke Barracks, Harrogate, North Yorkshire.

Dental Centre Harrogate is a modern 3-chair surgery with current A-dec units, digital x-ray and computerised records, system, CSSD and rotary endodontic provision. There is also a part-time hygienist employed on site, with OHE qualified nurses delivering targeted prevention advice to our young patient base. The barracks itself has a shop, café and access to the on-site gym and swimming pool, which is currently free of charge for all staff.

As a Civilian Dental Practitioner, you will be resourced to provide clinical outputs and work should be directed towards improving and maintaining the dental health and operational fitness of personnel.

You will also be expected to undertake non-clinical activities including,but not limited to, practice meetings, training and personal administration.

Please note that GDC annual fees are currently being reimbursed.

Essential Criteria

Applicants must be fully registered with the General Dental Council (GDC) without conditions; and either; have undertaken Foundation Dentist Training (or have qualified before foundation training became compulsory in the NHS); or have evidence of adequate clinical experience (either in the UK or abroad) to be able to practice independently.

Experience and competency in the following areas is also required:

  • Clinical skills – Clinically current and competent with all aspects of general dental practice.
  • IT skills – Familiar and competent in the use of electronic healthcare records.
  • Staff appraisal – Able to contribute to staff development and appraisal.
  • Professional knowledge – Knowledge of all contemporary professional guidance e.g. NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence), FDGP (Faculty of General Dental Practitioners), SDCEP (Scottish Dental Clinical Effectiveness Program), GDC (General Dental Council).

You should also have a full UK driving license to enable regular working from other local military dental centres to ensure business resilience.

Further Information

Due to COVID 19, there is now a requirement for dental clinical staff to be fit tested for a FFP3 mask, which has to be worn when managing a patient who is undergoing an aerosol generating procedure (AGP) he successful candidate will be fit tested prior to commencing employment.

There is no requirement to deploy as this is met by our uniformed personnel, but you will form the continuity of care required by our patients when based at home. This may include being required to work at other dental centres with-in the local area.

There may be a requirement, determined by the business need, to participate in the regional emergency out of hours roster on joining or at a future date.

Please be aware that if you are found successful you will be asked to provide evidence of your immunity to Hepatitis B.

Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security needed is security check.

All employees joining Ministry of Defence who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a 6-month probation period (unless otherwise advised) effective from the employment start date.
