Overview

Every day is exciting and every day is fulfilling at The Meadows.

The Meadows is an acute assessment and treatment In-patient unit for older people. The Meadows is comprised of three wards, with 8 beds. Two wards are dedicated to the care of dementia patients, who present with challenging behaviours and one ward for functional mental illnesses.

We are committed to providing person-centred and compassionate care to our service users. The use of the psychological approach, called Positive Behaviour Support, allows us to involve patients and their families in their treatment- we pride ourselves as truly being holistic in our care.

The recognition of our dedication to providing high quality care is reflected in our CQC rating of ‘Good’.

We want everyone to grow, learn and get involved when they are here! We offer a range of opportunities like, Preceptorship, CPD days and Nurses’ forum, just to name a few. Staff at the Meadows are encouraged to look for opportunities and initiatives Trustwide, as well as locally- so come and get stuck in.

Our links with the universities are invaluable and will allow you to undertake learning in physical health assessment and phlebotomy. These skills are important when working with older people, where mental health illnesses present alongside physical ailments. This skill set is useful for you while you are here, but also as you progress in your career.

We host a number of fun events throughout the year, which are kindly supported by our therapy and activities colleagues. We have monthly afternoon teas, music for hospitals four times a year and other adhoc theme days and fund-raising events such as MacMillan coffee mornings. The Meadows works hard to ensure you wellbeing is looked after!

Joining our team will give you a strong sense of togetherness. Our multi-disciplinary team works diligently to provide the best treatments and health outcomes. Approachable and supportive, the team will be there to enrich your learning and your experience- all the while you get to know people who use our services.

Working in Older Adult Services is incredibly rewarding and no two days are ever the same.
