You will get the opportunity to grow into this role. There is no requirement to have prior professional experience in substance misuse, we will fully invest in giving you exposure, support growth in skillset and give you the chance to gain a specialism in substance misuse.

We could give you the opportunity to develop in to a specialist role of your interest and benefit to the service i.e. ANP, BBV, sexual health, plastering, ILS/ALS (intermediate life support and advanced life support), health promotion, phlebotomy, vaccinations, suturing, wound care, RCGP, and long term condition courses.

HMP Hewell is a closed category B male remand prison, with an operational capacity of 1,104. In the main closed site, there are 6 main house block residential units. The prison is operated by Her Majesty’s Prison Service.

What do we need from you so you can do the job?

As a Substance Misuse Nurse you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, whilst being a support and resource to less experienced members of staff. You must be able to carry out comprehensive assessments, initiate and review individual recovery plans and confidently communicate the full range of treatment options available to service users.

You will work with individuals, on a 1-1 basis, providing advice and information. You will support in group work delivery and liaise with prescribers and Recovery Practitioners on clinical interventions. You will occasionally be required to support dispensing. You must have an understanding and commitment to recovery and a person centred approach. This is an exciting role to support and motivate individuals to take control of their lives and to make changes to overcome dependence on substances and move onto a life free of offending.

With proven experience of working with Substance Misusers and sound clinical substance misuse knowledge; you’ll have an awareness of health issues relating to substance misuse and ideally hold RCGP 1 in Substance Misuse / RCGP 2 in Substance Misuse – these are desirable but not essential.

If you are self-motivated and able to work autonomously as well as showing plenty of initiative when it comes to handling a wide range of situations, then this could be the right role for you!

This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week over7 days with shift times 08:00 – 16:00 hours. We also welcome part-time and bank applications.
