Lead Nurse Specialist Palliative & End of Life Care

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Hospital Palliative Care Team at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust. This well-established service provides specialist holistic support to adults with life limiting illness and to those approaching end of life within the acute setting.

We currently have a band 7 position based in the Hospital Palliative Care Team and we are looking to recruit applicants who are willing to make a positive impact working collaboratively across the integrated care organisation.

The focus of the role is to provide clinical expertise and leadership and to be accountable for the effective management of staff and resources. The role requires an understanding of current Initiatives in end of life care. Our vision is to provide a comprehensive and patient-centred approach to admission avoidance, creating a forward thinking and innovative approach to managing and supporting people with multiple pathology and complex health needs.

The successful candidate will work as part of a team consisting of consultants, clinical nurse specialists, Lead education facilitator, clerical and community colleagues. This post will suit someone with the right approach and a flexible “can do” attitude.

The successful applicant will have extensive post registration clinical experience; including evidence of continued professional development in palliative/end of life care. They should be able to demonstrate knowledge/skills in palliative and end of life care and should hold/working towards a Non-Medical prescribing qualification. The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills and have a confidence to educate and engage with all staff groups. They will need to be flexible in their approach to working, be able to work well within a team but also be able to work independently. In addition to their clinical expertise, they will support the team by providing clinical leadership and developing the service.
