Locum Consultants in Adult Critical Care Medicine and / or Anaesthesia at the Royal London Hospital

(10 PA)

We are advertising for locum consultant posts in Adult Critical Care Medicine and / or Anaesthesia, based at The Royal London Hospital. Both services forms part of the Surgery Division. There is opportunity for full time Critical Care (with any base specialty or single specialty ICM), full time Anaesthesia or a combination of both.

All applicants to a Critical Care post should have advanced training in Critical Care Medicine or equivalent as per FICM standards.

All applicants to Anaesthesia post must be fully registered on the UK General Medical Council’s Specialist Register. Specialist Registrars may apply if within 6 months of obtaining CCT at the date of interview.

The Royal London Hospital (RLH) provides acute general medical and surgical services (including obstetrics) for the local population; it has a busy emergency department where over 130,000 patients a year are seen. In addition, the hospital is a leading trauma centre and tertiary referral centre for neurosciences (including a hyper-acute stroke centre), renal, hepato-biliary medicine and vascular surgery. RLH is one of 4 acute hospitals in Barts Health NHS Trust.

The critical care unit currently has twenty one intensivists running one of the busiest intensive care units in London and is expanding to a purpose built unit for patients with SARS CoV2 over the winter period but we are very likely to have substantive consultant posts in the near future as part of an overarching plan to increase level 2 nad 3 capacity on this site. Prior to the recent pandemic, over 2,000 patients were admitted to the ACCU each year, approximately 30% of whom have trauma related injuries.

The Department of anaesthesia provides a service for all surgical specialities within Bart’s Health and is involved in many exciting initiatives. This is an excellent opportunity for dynamic individuals with the appropriate skills to join a first class multi-disciplinary team providing the full range of services to the majority of East London and beyond in a progressive London teaching hospital environment.

The post holders will be expected to work flexibly due to the uncertainties regarding the current pandemic.
