The pharmacy team is looking to appoint individuals who are passionate about mental health and learning disability services.Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (EPUT) is seeking a self-motivated foundation pharmacist (Agenda for Change Band 6) to join our friendly, growing and forward thinking pharmacy team at the Mental Health Unit, Basildon. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive clinical pharmacy services within mental health and learning disability, proactively using skills and knowledge to improve patient care via medicines optimisation. The post is suitable for new or recently qualified pharmacists, including applicants who were ‘provisional registrants’ and are now fully qualified. This Basildon post receives the ‘fringe’ High Cost Area Supplement.EPUT is one of the biggest mental health and community NHS Foundation Trusts in the country. We are a recently merged organisation previously known as 'SEPT' and 'NEP' and have achieved an 'Overall Good' CQC rating, with “Outstanding” for caring. We provide community services across South East Essex, West Essex, Bedfordshire and Luton. We also provide integrated care including mental health, learning disability, and social care to culturally and economically diverse communities across Bedfordshire, Essex and Suffolk. We employ approximately 5,500 people and work with a wide range of partners 'Working to Improve Lives'.EPUT is a specialist mental health and community health services trust providing adult mental health services, older people’s and young people’s mental health services, substance misuse services, forensic services, learning disability services, and community health services.


Your role will primarily involve provision of clinical pharmacy services to a dedicated EPUT area (inpatient psychiatric hospital wards in Thurrock RM16 2PX/ Basildon SS16 5NL / Rochford SS4 1RB), contributing to multi-disciplinary team meetings and ward rounds, and providing medicines education to patients, carers and staff.

Your duties will also include occasional dispensary shifts in the main Trust dispensary in Chelmsford, and may also require occasional travel to other areas of the Trust in Essex, so being a driver with access to your own vehicle is an essential requirement.

EPUT has pharmacy bases across Essex, and this particular post is based at the Basildon hospital site. (We are based on the same site as the acute hospital in Basildon, but we are not part of Mid and South Essex University Hospitals Group.) You will be required to make regular visits to clinical sites across south Essex (including Thurrock, Basildon, Rochford). There may also be a requirement to provide services to community health services units (non-psychiatric).

You will be given excellent support by the senior pharmacists and technicians within the team and will be supported in your continuing education within general and psychiatric pharmacy. You will be expected to work towards a Postgraduate Certificate in General Clinical Pharmacy. This post also provides the opportunity to apply and develop skills in teaching and training other healthcare professionals, such as doctors, nurses, and other pharmacy staff.

You will participate in weekend and bank holiday rotas, the on-call pharmacist rota, and any early and late working rotas as required.

You should have a Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent, with Membership of the General Pharmaceutical Council. You will work 37.5 hours per week.

As a newly appointed employee, you are responsible for incurring the cost of your initial DBS check relevant to your post, the amount will be deducted from your first salary with the Trust.
