Job summary
This post is a fantastic oppotunity for a support worker/healthcare assistant who wishes to specialise and work in a community respiratory setting.
You will work alongside and be supported by experienced assistant practitioners, specialist nurses and physios, OT and dietitian.
You will work in the borough of Sandwell and close borders to deliver care at the patients home and in a community setting.
You will work within a well-established, friendly and supportive team.
You must hold a valid UK driving licence and have a car that can be used for work purposes as there is a travel requirement for this post.
Main duties of the job
The Respiratory support worker will be a member of the CommunityRespiratory Service. They will support specialist nurses, specialistphysiotherapists, a senior occupational therapist and a senior dietician todeliver respiratory care across the Sandwell Borough to patients in their place of residence. They will provide care and give lifestyle advice as set out by a bespoke treatment/management plan initiated by a clinician. They will be responsible for delivering care and assisting with pulmonary rehabilitation and various clinics (oxygen, spirometry) under the direction of clinical professionals.

Qualifications
Essential
- NVQ level 3 or above in health care
Desirable
- Sports or exercise qualification
- Basic First Aid Certificate
- Evidence of continuous professional development (CPD)
- Gym instructor qualification
- Level 4 qualification in health care
- Qualification in exercise training for chronic respiratory disease
Experience
Essential
- Previous experience of working in a health care or related setting
- Experience of working in a team.
- Understanding of health and safety issues within healthcare
- Ability to plan and prioritise work tasks and activities.
- Ability to carry out routine elements of assessment to enhance the patient's journey following an initial assessment by a registered practitioner.
Desirable
- Previous experience working within Pulmonary Rehabilitation or Cardiac Rehabilitation
- Experience of working as a gym instructor or in an exercise setting with groups and individuals, screening, assessing, and designing exercise programmes.
- Experience of working autonomously and without direct supervision in a clinical setting and applying therapeutic principles to assessments.
- Experience of working with service users with physical or mental health conditions.
- Experience working with Respiratory patients.
- Experience of coaching. Leading sports activities with service users of differing abilities.
