Are you an experienced capital project manager looking for an exciting and challenging new role? At Leighton Hospital, we are working on building a modern healthcare campus - a once in a generation opportunity to transform health care in mid Cheshire for the future. We are seeking a Senior Capital Project Manager to deputise for the Building and MEP leads as required, responsibilities will include support of the HF Construction Director, Building Lead and MEP Lead in the effective and efficient management of the total resources of the HF team. The friendly and collaborative Healthier Futures Programme Management team are based in their own offices on site at Leighton Hospital, Crewe. The Trust supports flexible working and is located in a great area - in a beautiful countryside setting with excellent rail and road links to Chester, Manchester and Liverpool.

This role provides an amazing opportunity to be involved in a major civil engineering project which aims to transform the welfare of the people of Cheshire well into the future.

Main duties of the job

To deputise for the Building Lead or MEP Lead as the situation requires. To support the HF Construction Director, Building Lead and MEP Lead in the effective and efficient management of the total resources of the HF team. To provide support in leadership responsibility for the New Hospital Programme Construction Team ensuring the most effective planning, development and management of all services provided.

To assist the HF Construction Team on this major project and associated enabling or supporting projects, taking lead responsibility for defined workstreams or packages as directed.

To comment upon building and engineering designs in accordance with NHS Health Technical Memorandum (HTMs) and Health Building Notes (HBNs), British Standards and all current legislation.

To take technical lead for defined workstreams or packages related to the management of the HF Programme works and providing accurate up-to-date advice as required.

To provide a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.

To develop and maintain close and effective working relationships with the internal and external stakeholders to achieve an effective and integrated design and construction solution.

To commission and project manage defined workstreams or packages, act as lead and manage staff/consultants as required.

Budgetary responsibility within approved scheme limits.

Person Specification

Education & Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree or equivalent experience in general or project/programme management roles
  • Evidence of continuous professional development

Desirable

  • Master's qualification or post graduate study in a relevant subject
  • Formal project management or change management qualification
  • Other formal qualifications relating to leadership, programme or project management.
  • Membership of an appropriate professional body (RICS, IStructE, ICE, IEE, IMechE, RIBA, etc)

Knowledge & Previous Experience

Essential

  • Previous knowledge and or experience of managing large complex construction projects and/or programmes
  • Experience of managing project budgets
  • Knowledge of RIBA Stages of work, NHS Health Technical Memorandum (HTMs) and Health Building Notes (HBNs), British Standards
  • Experience of leading teams of professional (NHS and contract/external) staff within a performance/contract management culture

Desirable

  • Knowledge of NHS business case processes including HM Treasury 5 case model and HM Treasury The Green Book- Central Government Guidance on Appraisal and Evaluation
  • Experience in preparing business cases.

Skills

Essential

  • Ability to analyse and balance complex service, commercial and political decisions and draw appropriate conclusions
  • Ability to influence and create change where significant barriers to acceptance exist
  • Ability to plan and organise resources to ensure strategic objectives and deadlines are met
  • The post holder will be expected to work autonomously and have the ability to navigate complex processes within tight timeframes

Desirable

  • Evidence of effective working relationships both inside and outside the organisation.
