Job Description

Positive Behaviour Support Workers main duty is to provide daily support to Service Users who are within the Autistic Spectrum Disorder, who may exhibit behaviours which challenge both physically and verbally and may be unpredictable in their behaviour to live a full and rewarding life. The key objective of the role is to provide the level of support required by each individual service user to fill the gap between what they are personally able to do and what they actually need to be able to do to lead a life that they consider fulfilling. Job holders are required to recognise the aspirations of the service users and work towards enabling the service user to achieve their own person life plan through person centred planning. This will include being actively involved in empowering service users to make individual choices with regard to their everyday living. Managing Activities To ensure that high standards of professional care and practice for service users are established and maintained, including appropriate attention to their physical, cultural, social, educational, recreational and emotional needs. To enable service users to maintain, develop and utilise a range of external relationships To undertake sleep-in and waking night duties as part of the rota pattern of the organisation. To understand and comply with all company policies and procedures To understand and comply with the companys Philosophy of Care and Equal Opportunities and put our Values and Beliefs into practice on a day to day basis. To understand and comply with all legal/contractual requirements To contribute to the accuracy, availability, communication and confidentiality of all information, whether that is written or verbal. To be involved in the transition procedure for service users into their new home. This may involve working with service users in their current accommodation and EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS Essential Experience Good written and oral communication skills Candidate must be able to demonstrate and have an experience of domestic skills, e.g. housekeeping, healthy eating, cooking and finance, etc. Candidates must have a stable employment pattern. Desirable Experience Experience in different care settings Knowledge of autism spectrum disorder, learning disabilities and challenging behaviour. Knowledge of Makaton Qualifications Must have or be prepared to work to QCF Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care or equivalent Other Evidence of a commitment to lifelong learning. Positive attitude to disabilities and disability issues Demonstrate interest in Autism and taking up service users rights in the community Ability to work irregular hours at short notice and to work flexibly to meet the demands of the service.
