How to become a Driving Instructor
If you’re ready to share the joy of driving and you love to teach, you’re already halfway there. While you don’t need any previous qualifications to start your training with us, you’ll need to:
- Have held a UK or approved foreign driving licence for at least three years
- Have not been banned from driving in the last four years and have fewer than six points on your licence
- Pass an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
- Show high regard for all aspects of road safety
To become a Driving Instructor, there are three DVSA tests that you need to pass to qualify.
Part 1: Theory and Hazard Perception
Part 2: Driving Ability
Part 3: Instructional Ability Test
We provide a blended approach to complete all 3 parts together, giving you access to a trainee licence before your final Part 3 Instructional Ability test.
So after you’ve passed Part 1 and 2 and completed 40 hours of Part 3, you can join our Trainee Partner franchise and start teaching real pupils whilst you’re still training.

When you pass your third and final test, you’ll get your DVSA Approved Driving Instructor Licence, also known as a green badge. You’re then a fully qualified driving instructor.
