One of the wonderful things about living in today’s world is that we older women can shop wherever we like. No more wry looks from teenagers as we wander around TopShop or H&M – every age is welcome in every store these days. Plus, of course, a click of a mouse and we literally have a whole world of choice. However, this is not always a good thing as you can be tempted to spend far too much money (either on items you don’t really need or by having to order several sizes to try on at home). So we thought you might find it useful if we highlighted some of the best fashion brands for women over forty…
Essentiel Antwerp
Initially you may think this Belgian brand caters for much younger women, but there are some wonderful pieces, in particular their florals, which are ageless and eminently wearable. MORE INFO
Winser London
Annabel and I went to the preview of their A/W collection earlier this year and we were blown away by the new designs on offer, including this Lauren Rib Poncho that I tried on and their Italian fabric leggings. Winser London clothes are luxurious and they last – I’ve been wearing my Merino wool coat (£179) with pride for years (it’s one of their signature designs). If you spend £250 or more, sign in and use SPECIALTREAT50 at the checkout. Offer expires at midnight on 14 October.
ME+EM
A perennial favourite of ours. You simply can’t beat their tailored trousers, wonderful knitwear and layering tee. You’ll always feel great wearing Me+Em.
Kettlewell
The Kettlewell website is a one-off. Why? Because they stock wardrobe essentials in a total of 300 colours. You can, rather handily, shop by a particular colour or by item. See our recent article on why we love this brand.
JD Williams
Their website is massive and it can take a bit of negotiating but look carefully and you’ll discover some excellent value fashion. JD Williams design clothes especially for our age group – by that I mean their clothes fit and flatter the 45+ body. See our latest finds here.
Boden
Classically smart clothes and one of the first places I would look if in search of a stand-out winter coat. GO TO WEBSITE
Zara
Probably the website that gets me most excited! How many times have you complimented someone on what they are wearing and they say “Thank you. It came from Zara.” Very reasonable prices for such stylish pieces – such as this stunning dress for under £90. Definitely a website worth bookmarking.
Hope
This brand designs for real body shapes and proportions and has a refreshing attitude to sizing – instead of numbers, they categorise by using words such as ‘slim’, ‘curvy’ and ‘super curvy’. Annabel and I modelled some of their new collection here
Bombshell
If you want to look glam (and be comfortable at the same time – not often two words that go hand in hand!) then check out designer Katya Wildman. Click here for her website.
… and last but not least, good old M&S
We think things are hotting up at what might be the nation’s favourite store. – particularly in the shoe and knitwear departments. Their jeans are top notch these days too – great fit, great quality, great price. Check out our choices from their new collection here.
