State pension The State Pension is regular payment you can get from the government once you reach State Pension age.

The amount you get depends on how long you have been paying National Insurance (NI).

To get the full new state pension, you must have paid National Insurance for 35 years.

Taking 25% at retirement You can usually take up to 25% of the amount built up in any pension as a tax-free lump sum. The tax-free lump sum doesn’t affect your Personal Allowance.

Tax is taken off the remaining amount before you get it.
This calculator assumes that your personal pension contributions will receive a 20% top-up from HMRC. If you are a higher rate taxpayer, you may be able to claim additional tax relief by completing a self-assessment tax return.
Employer contributions do not receive any top-up from HMRC.
