Job Description
As an Assistant Accountant, you will support the delivery of key elements of the accounting service within agreed timetables, ensuring accurate, consistent, and compliant financial processing across a range of areas. Reporting to the Senior Accountant, you will work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to help maintain strong financial controls and high-quality reporting across the organisation.

What You'll Be Doing:
- Supporting key areas of the accounting service including intercompany accounting, accruals, prepayments, insurance accounting, fleet costs, fixed assets, VAT/CIS analysis, and housing-related processes.
- Preparing and posting month-end journals and supporting the delivery of accurate and timely period-end close processes.
- Completing balance sheet reconciliations in line with policy and agreed month-end timetables.
- Processing ad-hoc journals, corrections, and cost allocations based on defined rules and controls.
- Supporting supplier verification checks and controls in line with agreed service levels.
- Assisting Shared Services Accountants with analysis, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
- Ensuring accuracy and compliance across financial processes, maintaining strong audit trails.
- Contributing to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to streamline and improve processes.
- Keeping training materials and process documentation up to date and in a consistent format.
- Working to month-end and year-end deadlines, ensuring all activities are completed on time and to standard.
What We're Looking For:
- Part-qualified accountant (or studying towards a recognised qualification) or equivalent QBE experience.
- Experience working in a finance, accounting, or shared service environment (desirable but not essential).
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial processes.
- Excellent Excel skills, including lookups, pivot tables, and data manipulation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Experience working to SLAs and tight reporting deadlines.
- Confident communicator, able to work with both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
- A methodical, organised, and self-motivated approach to work.
- Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure and manage competing priorities.
- A collaborative mindset with a willingness to challenge and improve ways of working.
- A proactive approach to personal development and continuous improvement.
