The Ministry of Defence, Civil Service workforce is diverse, with many different functions and professions ranging from cyber and digital transformation, police officers, security guards, trainers, human resources, teachers, psychologists, storekeepers, and policy secretariat staff to support the British Army.
The Defence School of Transport (DST), based at Normandy Barracks in Leconfield, was formed in 1996 to provide driver and transport management training to personnel from the Army, Royal Air Force and Royal Marines.
The school trains 10,000 service personnel every year, delivering outstanding training on road-going and specialist military vehicles. Training is conducted in classrooms, lecture theatres, demonstration areas, a purpose-built road and cross-country training area and on public roads.
DST can train up to 1,500 personnel at any time making us the largest residential driving school in the World. We are recognised as a Centre of Excellence by: DHL, Eddie Stobart, the US Army, the US Marine Corps and the French Army amongst others. To meet this vast training task our dedicated establishment of 700 military and civilian personnel operates a fleet of 600 vehicles ranging from saloon cars to Mechanical Handling Equipment (MHE) professional to specialist military trucks and lease-hire LGV.

Job description
The Defence School of Transport is seeking to appoint a motivated, detail-oriented Administration Officer to support the delivery of Defence Driver Licensing and Testing capability.
This role sits at the heart of Defence Driver Training and directly supports the Ministry of Defence in delivering driver licence acquisition, testing and assurance for Service Personnel. You will contribute to a critical operational output, ensuring processes are delivered accurately, efficiently and in compliance with DVSA, DVLA, and Defence regulations.
You will work within Training Support Wing, supporting both Licence Acquisition and the Defence Licence and Testing Authority (DeLTA), helping deliver a nationwide function responsible for up to 12,000 training and licensing transactions annually. With ongoing developments in Information Management Systems, there will be opportunities for further training and professional development to support evolving business needs
As an Administration Officer, you will deliver end-to-end administrative support across driver licensing and testing activities, ensuring data accuracy, compliance, and effective coordination across multiple stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer initial applications for:
- Driving licence acquisition (car, LGV, coach)
- Theory tests and practical training courses
- Undertake data entry and course loading into Defence Management Information Systems
- Record and process theory and practical test results
- Administer pre-test authorities and post-test result processing
- Maintain accurate records and ensure data integrity across systems
- Support the end-to-end driver licensing and testing process
- Ensure compliance with DVSA, DVLA, and Defence Driver Licensing regulations
- Liaise with internal teams and geographically dispersed driver licensing test centres
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of administrative processes
Please note: We can offer an MOD funded apprenticeship, to run alongside your work, to gain a professional level 3 qualification in Business Administration.
Person specification
- Experience working as an Administration officer or similar
- Experience using Microsoft applications including SharePoint to process information
- Ability to input and extract data
- Strong communication skills
- An understanding of Great Britain and Northern Ireland legislation of Driver Licencing
- Knowledge of, or willing to learn, Defence Driver Licensing Regulations
Desirable skills:
- Experience of working with management information systems in a regulated environment
