Job description

The Role and Our Team

AI is one of the defining issues of our time. Sitting at the heart of the governments response to it, the AI Adoption and Preparedness (AIAP) Analysis Team provides expert analysis to shape key decisions. If you want to make a real impact as an analyst in government, apply for this role.

AI Adoption and Preparedness Directorate works to maximise the UKs opportunities from artificial intelligence while managing associated risks, supporting national AI adoption through skills and investment, coordinating cross government and industry activity, and ensuring AI is deployed safely, responsibly and at scale across the economy.

The AIAP Analysis Team works very closely with the policy teams working on AI regulation and safety, skills and talent pipelines, and enabling public and private sector AI adoption.

Our team generates robust evidence through policy analysis, qualitative and quantitative research, and the design and delivery of evaluations to inform AI policy and programme decisions.

Our vision is to be the authoritative voice of AI analysis in government - delivering rapid, high-quality insights, coordinating analysis across departments, and fostering a high-performing, inclusive team culture.

If you join us, you will be part of a growing team who are at the forefront of the UKs efforts to harness the potential of AI for the country. We take our learning and development seriously, and work in close partnership with our policy colleagues to ensure evidence is at the heart of decision-making. Please reach out if you would like to informally discuss the role before putting in an application.

Our Inclusive Environment

Experience of working in AI is not a requirement of this role. Evidence suggests that some candidates, especially women and people from under-represented groups, can be less likely to apply unless they meet all the requirements. If this role appeals to you, please consider applying even if you dont feel you meet every part of the person specification.

Key Responsibilities

Job description

You will conduct analysis to inform the UK's AI Strategy, working closely with other analysts and the AI Adoption and Preparedness (AIAP) policy team. You will also engage with stakeholders within and outside government to strengthen the evidence base and drive analytical impact beyond the Directorate. Your core research projects will include:

AI Adoption Modelling: Building and maintaining regression and statistical models to assess the drivers, barriers and economic impacts of AI adoption across sectors and regions of the UK. You will have the opportunity to lead and own key projects, building your management and delivery capabilities.

You will have the opportunity to become the team's go-to analyst for advising on their strengths, limitations, and appropriate applications.

In addition to these core projects, you will sometimes be required to reprioritise and provide analytical support in emerging priority areas. The role therefore requires flexibility and the ability to work at pace. However, we will ensure you have consistently strong development opportunities and a chance to shape the direction of your work.

Communicating and Influencing: You must be able to communicate evidence with clarity and impact by making complex findings engaging and easy to understand

Analysis: You must be a strong analyst, able to bring clarity to complex problems and distil insights into cogent briefings.

Memberships: You must be a full member of one of the following analytical professions: Government Social Research Service (GSR), Government Statistician Group (GSG), Government Economics Service (GES) or Government Operational Research Service (GORS).

OR

You must be able to demonstrate that a) you satisfy the eligibility criteria and b) have the competence, at the required grade for one of the analytical professions. It is currently not possible to join the GES profession at HEO grade via open recruitment
