HMRCs Fraud Investigation Service (FIS) is responsible for the departments civil and criminal investigations. Our investigation capability is fundamental to managing and reducing the tax gap, meeting HMRCs strategic objectives and supporting the aims of a healthy tax system. It is also a key component of the compliance strategy, promoting compliance across the population and prompting behavioural change, preventing and responding to harmful attacks on the tax system and ensuring none are beyond our reach.

Investigation Services brings mainstream and highly specialist capabilities together to enhance and support the full range of criminal, civil and regulatory investigations into serious tax fraud and money laundering undertaken in FIS. This role in Investigation Services Core provides vital services to the full range of FIS investigations, helping HMRC tackle the many and pressing challenges that modern-day tax fraud presents.

Job description

Assistant Investigation Hub Officers will be responsible for delivering Core services, covering a variety of activities and are part of every criminal and civil investigation carried out by HMRC.

It should be noted that a variety of services are offered to customers and staff are required to be able to work flexibly and on an adhoc basis.

They will provide excellent service to a range of customers, supporting investigations through activities such as:

  • Interrogating departmental systems, preparing standard intelligence packs and standardising and interpreting data.
  • Procurement of essential items within associated budgets.
  • Developing professional stakeholder relationships with investigators to support planning and delivery.
  • Assisting with property and vehicles, as part of which you maybe required to drive an official vehicle for reasons such as the return of evidence, property retrieval or for vehicle maintenance / repairs.
  • Attendance on the Investigation Services Officer Training course is required, which may require travel with an overnight stay.
  • Completion of the Public and Personal Safety Training is required.
  • Additional travel maybe required, alongside overnight stays.
  • This is an office based role requiring a minimum of 60% office attendance.

Person specification

Deliver high quality, professional and accessible services, anticipating the needs of our investigations by:

  • Vehicle Fleet maintenance ensuring the Vehicle Fleet is operational by undertaking vehicle checks, driving the vehicles to and from garages for repair / maintenance.
  • Performing tasks suitable to the Assistant Officer grade in line with the guidance provided and referred to above.
  • Contributing to a supportive culture, that can realise the operational potential of your team to deliver against the Investigation Services SLAs and KPIs.
  • Identifying, through conversations and outcomes of quality assurance processes, any development needs and ensure these are communicated to your line manager.
  • Developing a professional relationship with local investigators, case teams and other teams within IS and FIS.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across FIS to build skills, capabilities, share best practice and deliver business objectives.
  • Maintenance and assurance of operational assets.

Essential Criteria:

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate clearly both written & verbally.
  • An ability to pay particular attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Applicants must have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office O365 products, Excel, Teams and SharePoint.
  • Ability to work independently & as part of a team.

Additional Security Information

SC Clearance (SC) is required to undertake this post, if you do not currently hold SC clearance, but eligible to attain HMRC will support the successful candidate in gaining this.

Driving Licence

You must hold a Full UK Driving License and be willing and able to drive for business need.
