Job description
The Head of Business Management will lead a proactive, customer focused business support function for the directorate, providing robust oversight across programme and performance management, risk and milestone tracking, finance and workforce planning, HR support, diary management and administrative services, while driving continuous improvement.
Reporting to the Deputy Director, the role holder will play a central role in enabling the Senior Management Team to operate effectively in a high tempo environment. Leading the Business Management team and directly task managing a Personal Assistant, the post holder will drive high performance and quality outcomes across both their own team and the wider Directorate, using effective systems, collaboration and communication. The role will require strong judgement and the ability to work confidently across the Directorate, Corporate Delivery Group and wider department to support timely, well governed business delivery.
This role is expected to be agile and able to respond to Directorate priorities. As such you may be asked to undertake different duties as required.
Your responsibilities will include, but arent limited to:
- Lead a high-performing Business Management function
- Drive effective governance, performance reporting and decision-making across delivery, risk, finance and workforce planning
- Own the Directorates business planning and performance framework
- Lead budget and financial management processes

Person specification
To be successful in this role you will need to have the following experience:
- Able to demonstrate the ability to oversee a programme of work, requiring you to collaborate with others to deliver against stretching targets, under challenging circumstances.
- Excellent Stakeholder engagement and management with the ability to build successful and professional working relationships with varied and complex stakeholders.
- A record of managing and constantly improving processes for positive change with the ability to work flexibly to the need of the directorate.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing, including the ability to lead meetings and provide challenge where appropriate.

Working hours, office attendance and travel requirements
Full time roles consist of 37 hours per week.
Whilst we welcome applications from those looking to work with us on a part time basis, there is a business requirement for the successful candidate to be able to work at least 35 hours per week.
This role is suitable for hybrid working, which is a non-contractual arrangement where a combination of workplace and home-based working can be accommodated subject to business requirements.
The expectation at present is a minimum of 60% of your working time a month will be spent at either your designated workplace (one of the locations cited in the advert) or, when required for business reasons, in another office/work location/visiting stakeholders. Your designated workplace will be your contractual place of work. There may be occasions where you are required to attend above the minimum expectation.
Occasional travel to other offices will be required, which may involve overnight stays.
