Job summary
This is a key role, within the People Safety Team. The successful candidate will be supporting the ongoing delivery of the People Safety Strategy. Working within the qualified Health & Safety Business Partnering team you will support the departments aim in ensuring the business remains compliant to legislative changes and our policies and processes always remain centred around the health and safety of our people customers and partners.
This is a demanding role working in an environment where you will need be able to communicate fully with both internal and external stakeholders across all areas of the business. You will be able to exercise effective judgement to manage conflicting priorities in a busy high-profile area, ensuring performance deadlines are met.
There is an expectation of occasional travel and overnight stays. This role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works 60% of their time in the DWP hub office and the remainder from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and your office will be your contractual place of work.
You may be required to work on a roster basis covering Saturdays and extended hours (8am-8pm) in accordance with Departmental Policy. This role will be located at the following Leeds (Quarry House), Sheffield (Kings Court), Blackpool (Peel Park), Birmingham (Arena), Pontypridd (Ty Taf) and Glasgow (Atlantic Quay) hub locations.

Successful candidates can expect to be involved in a range of the following:
- Triage of accident and serious customer related incident (Fast-Track) reports using embedded methodology and processes for consistency.
- Undertake and support accident/incident and Fast Track investigations, liaising with relevant DWP stakeholders and suppliers to develop high quality outcomes including RIDDOR reporting to HSE within timescales.
- Support the creation of departmental risk assessments. Also support the wider business to suitably and sufficiently assess Health and Safety risk.
- Proactively use departmental and Power Bi systems to identify trends and areas for improvement to ensure compliance requirements are achieved.
- Delivery of 1-2-1 Display Screen Equipment consultation, working with internal stakeholders and suppliers towards best solutions.
- Identify and provide signposting where cases require Reasonable Adjustment under the Equality Act, and liaise with Workplace Adjustments Team as required.
- Undertake detailed audits of People Safety policies and processes (and support wider H&S audit activity) in line with the People Safety audit programme.
- Provide expert advice, coaching & support to Managers and staff across the business, ensuring suitable and sufficient Health & Safety Business Partnering arrangements are in place.
- Provide expert advice & support on national projects and initiatives including Change & Impact Analysis of processes, systems and environments. DWP Health and Safety policy and guidance drafting, completing reviews and updates to our Intranet pages.
- Accurate record keeping to support audit and legal compliance.
- Promote Health and Safety methodology, delivering awareness sessions to foster a positive H&S culture alongside improved capability.
- Consult at H&S Committee meetings at National Regional and District level as per the framework.

Key Criteria for the Role:
- Substantial experience of Health and Safety delivery in a people centred, fast paced organisation (lead criteria).
- Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively as part of a geographically dispersed team.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage own workload effectively without direct supervision.
- Demonstrable influencing skills and ability to build strong working relationships across teams/organisations.
- Excellent written, presentational, and verbal communication skills.
- A good working knowledge of Microsoft 365 Package, including Excel, Power BI, SharePoint and MS Teams, along with confidence/ability to learn bespoke IT platforms and identify opportunities to fully utilise IT available to improve efficiency.
- Evidence of Health and Safety (H&S) related learning/accreditation at minimum of NEBOSH General Certificate Level 3 or a demonstrable equivalent H&S qualification at this level or above.
