Job summary

The Crown Prosecution Service is based in England and Wales. You must be aged 16 or over at the point of starting in this role. The expected start date is approximately 812 weeks after the application closing date. Candidates are expected to commence employment as soon as possible following the expiry of their notice period. Requests for significantly later start dates may not be accommodated.

You will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of financial data, supporting robust financial processes and delivering accurate and timely financial reporting. The role plays a key part in ensuring compliance with organisational policies and the CPS assurance and control framework, while providing clear financial insights to support informed decision-making.

Key responsibilities include

  • ensuring the accuracy and reliability of financial data through effective processes and controls
  • providing assurance on financial management practices
  • producing transparent financial reporting with meaningful analysis and narrative on performance, risks, and opportunities.

You will work closely with stakeholders across the organisation to build strong, collaborative relationships and support consistent, high-quality financial management.

Job description

Your roles and responsibilities as the Management Accountant is you are responsible for ensuring data integrity, assurance, managing financial processes, and providing accurate financial reporting. Activities delivered will include.

  • Data Integrity - Ensure the accuracy and reliability of financial data, completing financial processes and checks in accordance with instructions and timeframes.
  • Assurance Provide oversight and assurance that the organisations financial management complies with the relevant policies, procedures and processes in accordance with the CPS assurance and control framework.
  • Financial Reporting - Deliver comprehensive, transparent, and timely financial information and insights to inform decision-making. Provide relevant analysis and clear narrative on the financial position, advising on financial risks, issues and oppurtunites.
  • Stakeholder Relationships - Build and maintain collaborative, customer-focused relationships and networks with a range of stakeholders locally and across the wider organisation. Work collaboratively with peers and finance directorate colleagues to share good practice.

Person specification

Essential

To be eligible to apply, you need to:

  • Demonstrate experience in financial management, reporting, or analysis
  • Show the ability to interpret financial information and provide clear, insight-led commentary
  • Have strong attention to detail with a focus on data accuracy and quality
  • Evidence the ability to build effective working relationships and collaborate with stakeholders
  • Demonstrate an understanding of financial controls, governance, and assurance processes

Desirable

  • Understanding of International Accounting Standards
  • Understanding of Government Accounts

Technical

  • Willing to work towards Level 4 Finance qualification with 6 months of being in post
