Job summary
The Ministry of Defence Police (MDP) is a civilian police force that protects the UK's Defence community, capabilities and assets. This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job description
Working alongside MFP Firearms Branch to maintain the MOD 50m indoor range at RNAD Coulport on behalf of the MDP, in line with DSA 03.OME Part 3.
Main Objectives
To complete all Range Warden duties in line with DSA 03.OME Part 3, including:
Maintaining the range including (but not exclusively):
- Care and security of range and range equipment, including low level maintenance and non technical servicing.
- Focal Point for range stores, maintaining, ordering, storing and issuing range equipment such as targets and inner ear protection etc.
- Making up and repairing target screens and penetrable targets.
- Maintaining cleanliness of the range and range buildings in line with Range Risk Assessment including managing disposal of scrap brass.
- Oversight and organising of range deep cleans, de-leading and servicing of range equipment including ventilation systems, as outlined in Range Risk Assessment.
Management of the range including (but not exclusively):
- Co-working with Clyde Firearms Branch in maintaining the range booking diary.
- Preparing the range to the users' requirements. Instructing the range user about targets, control systems and local range procedures when necessary.
- Co-ordinating and hosting of any range RECCEs by external units.
- Handing over and taking back of the range from the user.
- Custody of Range Orders, issuing a copy to RCO when handing over range.
Management of Range Log, ensuring:
- its correct completion by RCO prior and after use of range.
- Recording of de-leading, deep cleaning, technical examinations etc
- Recording of Range inspections
- Recording and reporting defects and damage arising from use, following due process in Range Orders.
- Knowing and understanding their responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act and being familiar with the range risk assessment.
- Maintain Range File including current MOD Form 904, MOD form 905, MOD 1057, all relevant inspection, maintenance, Risk Assessments and Cleaning reports.
H&S and fire Focal point for the building, ensuring compliance to all relevant site and MDP Standard Operating Procedures.
Maintain H&S noticeboard in line with site Safety Cell guidelines. In conjunction with on site contractors (including on site fire services), ensure all H&S processes for building are maintained (including fire checks, alarm tests and fire evacuation drills) and duly logged. Co-ordinate 6 monthly safety inspections with line manager and monthly First Aid kit audit.
Administrative duties as so tasked by line manager
Additional tasks may be required from time to time which will be equal to the grade.
This role has enhanced access to sensitive information, it is a requirement to successfully pass police vetting before an offer is made.
