Job summary

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is the UKs largest producer of official statistics, covering a range of key economic, social and demographic topics. These include measuring changes in the value of the UK economy, estimating the size, geographic distribution, and characteristics of the population, and providing indicators of price inflation, employment, earnings, crime, and migration.

The Integrated Data Service (IDS) is destined to be the UKs largest and most significant data analytics environment supporting public policy making and evaluation. It enables analysts in Government, the Devolved Administrations and external accredited researchers undertake ground-breaking research using a broad range of linkable data. The IDS is a cross-government service, with ONS acting as the lead delivery partner. It is a vital component of ONSs own ambitious strategy, to bring together high-quality data and analysis, to inform the UK, improve lives and build for the future. The service is now in Public Beta and is being delivered by the Integrated Data Programme (IDP), recognised on the Government Major Programme Portfolio.

Job description

You will support the delivery of the end-to-end service provided by SRS Statistical Support to researchers using, or looking to use, the SRS.

You will use organisational skills to support effective delivery of our services with the Statistical Support team. Day‑to‑day activity includes managing a shared mailbox, creating and tracking requests through JIRA, maintaining user access and permissions in SharePoint, supporting onboarding of new team members, maintaining operational documentation, and recording meeting actions.

This involves the back-office administrative actions, systems support, and coordination, as well as conducting Statistical Disclosure Control checks (adherence to statistical control standards, project governance and legal requirements) on material entering, exiting, and transferring between SRS projects. These actions will ensure our commitments to support research while managing data in line with our accreditation under the Digital Economy Act (DEA) and Data Owner preferences.

You will contribute to SRS Statistical Supports operational practice and documents.

This role involves close collaboration with members of other SRS and related teams, as well as interaction with stakeholders such as SRS researchers and data owners.

Key Responsibilities:-

Deliver excellent customer service and day-to-day administration of SRS Statistical Support to support the effective actions of SRS officers and researchers.

Reviewing business processes documentation and updates as necessary

Work closely with senior members of SRS Statistical Support to change existing processes or develop new processes to increase team efficiency.

Provide Statistical Disclosure Control checks for SRS project material moving in, out and within the platform to ensure there is no risk to the confidentiality of data subjects.

Essential Criteria:-

  • Confident use of digital tools and systems for administration (e.g. ticketing systems, shared inboxes, document management).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work on your own initiative and be pro-active in prioritising your workload.
  • Experience of delivering high-quality outcomes at pace
