Main duties of the job

The Assistant Psychologist role offers the opportunity to work closely with highly specialist Clinical & Counselling Psychologists (including regular clinical supervision) and with an experienced team of psychotherapists.

There may be opportunities for direct supervised clinical work using CBT & other therapeutic modalities, as well as opportunities to observe and be involved in psychological assessment. Responsibilities may include co-facilitating a CBT informed waiting list group and a service user co-production group.

The role may involve data analysis, embedding new data systems into the organisation and undertaking research to support the clinical service, funding bids, etc.

The post will also incorporate the role of Clinical Administrator to provide assistance to our administrative team. This role involves a great deal of direct patient contact, including taking referrals to the service. Front line administrators are often the first point of contact for young people & parents/carers. This is a challenging role, demanding both sensitivity and efficiency, and can provide valuable experience in preparation for clinical training.

The post is ideally suited to Psychology graduates who wish to pursue a career in Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology or Psychotherapy. Assistant Psychologists at Open Door have a high success rate for obtaining a place on clinical doctorate training.

Please see below for a detailed job description and person specification.

About us

Open Door is an NHS ICB commissioned voluntary sector service based in Haringey, North London, providing a range of therapeutic services for young people aged 12-24 and parents/carers. We form part of the Haringey CAMHS pathway for 12-18 year olds and are a highly regarded clinical service.

Open Door recently received national recognition for our impact, as a 2024 finalist for the Health Service Journal (HSJ) Award for Reducing Inequality and Improving Outcomes for Children and Young People.

Open Door offers talking therapy to adolescents and young adults on a brief, medium and longer-term basis. The team comprises Child & Adolescent and Adult Psychotherapists, Psychodynamic Psychotherapists and Counselling Psychologists who offer psychotherapy, CBT, drama therapy, therapeutic football groups and EMDR.

Our clinical team comprises both qualified and trainee therapists, the majority of them NHS trained, and all of whom are professionally accredited. We are a highly skilled team and many of our clinicians also teach on professional trainings.

Open Door works from bases in Crouch End and Tottenham, and provides services in local secondary schools and the Haringey Autism Hub. Most of our work is delivered in person as this is what most young people tell us they want. Demand for the service is high.
