If so, join Dunnock View as an Associate Specialist, where you will be providing treatment to men and women who have mental health needs. With the support of a Consultant Psychiatrist and Lead Consultant Psychiatrist you will provide clinical assessment. You will support the consultant in the assessment of patients referred to the service and will be expected to complete regular mental state reviews, as well as monitoring for side effects of medication. As an Associate Specialist, you will ensure the high quality first-line medical care of our inpatients, liaise effectively with external professionals and carers, provide written and oral evidence for Hospital Managers and Tribunal hearings, work towards safe discharges, and be a valued and effective member of the multidisciplinary team at Dunnock View. You will also ensure an adequate handover to colleagues including out of hours, seek collateral history from other professionals and family, and complete discharge letters/reports/s62 forms as required.

Main duties of the job

As an Associate Specialist at Dunnock View, located in Clacton-on-Sea with Elysium Healthcare, you will provide critical mental health treatment to inpatients. In collaboration with Consultant Psychiatrists, you will handle clinical assessments, manage regular mental state reviews, and monitor medication side effects. Your role includes ensuring top-quality inpatient care, effectively liaising with external professionals, providing written and oral evidence for Tribunal hearings, and facilitating safe discharges. Additional responsibilities include preparing reports for hearings, attending CPA meetings, providing oral evidence, contributing to clinical governance, ensuring continuous access to medical cover, providing cover during colleague absences, and liaising with GPs regarding patient physical healthcare. This role requires skills like GMC registration, significant experience in psychiatry, CPD standing with the Royal College of Psychiatrists, recent appraisal process involvement, and a desirable MRCPsych qualification.

With the support of a Consultant Psychiatrist and Lead Consultant Psychiatrist you will provide clinical assessment. You will also ensure an adequate handover to colleagues including out of hours, seek collateral history from other professionals and family, and complete discharge letters/reports/s62 forms as required.

Other Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing First-tier Tribunal and Hospital Managers' hearing reports under the supervision of Consultant.
  • Provide medical reports and attend CPA meetings to review care of patients with NHS England case managers and community care co-ordinators
  • Providing oral evidence at First-tier Tribunal and Hospital Managers' hearings under the supervision of the Consultant (Depending on your experience).
  • Contributing to the service development by participating in Clinical Governance activities by conducting audits, research and teaching.
  • Work effectively with colleagues to ensure that patients are able to access appropriate medical cover at all times.
  • Providing prospective cover to other specialty doctors when they are on leave.
  • Liaising with GP and practice nurse regarding physical healthcare of patients.

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • Full GMC registration
  • Experience working in psychiatry within multi-disciplinary teams
  • To be in good standing for CPD with the Royal College of Psychiatrists
  • To be linked in with an appraisal/RITA process within the last year
  • At least 3 years' experience in Psychiatry
  • Experience working as a doctor within similar environment
  • MRCPsych (desirable)
  • Section 12 (2) approval (desirable)
  • AC status (desirable)
