Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary primary healthcare team (MDT) delivering primary healthcare nursing including elements of occupational health.

The post holder will work with the Principal Nursing Officer (PNO) or Senior Medical Officer (SMO) within the medical facility (MF) and will be a focal point for Primary Healthcare nursing issues within area of practice.

The post holder will be able to work unsupervised and provide nursing care to the Medical Facility (MF) population at risk.

The post holder will hold an individual case load, and through consultation identify, assess and diagnose patients with complex health needs, minor injuries, minor illnesses and specific diseases within their level of competence.

Job responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities for the role include but are not limited to:

  • The post holder will provide specialist high-quality person-centred care which always
  • considers peoples safety, privacy and dignity using advanced clinical knowledge that is evidence based.
  • The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of appropriate treatment, screening and advice to patients within their professional competence and in accordance with Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC) clinical guidelines and protocols.
  • The post holder will provide expert clinical advice, leadership and support ensuring the needs of the service are met by exercising and demonstrating high levels of clinical judgement, critical analysis and decision-making skills.
  • The post holder will have line management, training and clinical supervision responsibilities for Military Medics, junior practice nurses, Healthcare Assistants (HCAs) and other members of the multidisciplinary team.

The interview may consist of a mix of direct questions and clinical situation-based scenarios.

Candidates will be expected to prepare a 15 minute presentation, subject will be sent to the candidates prior to interview.
