Job summary
Defence Medical Command is seeking a Band 8b Senior Digital Clinical Safety Officer to provide senior clinical leadership and governance for digital clinical safety across Defence health information systems. Reporting to the Chief Clinical Information Officer, the post holder will act as a senior clinical safety authority for the application of recognised clinical risk management standards, including DCB0129 and DCB0160.
This is a key leadership role within Defence Medical (DMed) Digital, responsible for providing independent clinical safety assurance across Defence healthcare technologies and supporting the safe adoption of digital innovation across Defence Medical Command.
The preferred base for this post is Defence Medical Services (DMS) Whittington, Lichfield, WS14 9PY but other MOD locations will be considered. This is a full-time position offering hybrid working; part-time and job share working patterns will be considered on request.

Main duties of the job
Defence Medical Command enables the delivery of healthcare and medical support to UK Armed Forces personnel, ensuring that military personnel are medically fit to deploy, train and operate whenever and wherever required.
Within Defence medical Command, DMed Digital provides the information, technology and digital services that underpin Defence healthcare. Working in partnership with clinical, operational, and technical teams, DMed Digital enables the safe delivery of healthcare through the provision and assurance of clinical systems, digital capabilities, and health information services.
As the Senior Digital Clinical Safety Officer, you will provide strategic clinical safety leadership across Defence healthcare technology, ensuring that patient safety is embedded throughout the lifecycle of digital systems and services. Acting as an independent clinical safety authority, you will provide expert advice, assurance, and governance to support the safe delivery and continual improvement of Defence healthcare capabilities.

Job responsibilities
Duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Provide senior clinical safety leadership and assurance across Defence healthcare technology and digital services.
- Lead the application of recognised clinical risk management standards, including DCB0129 and DCB0160, ensuring risks are identified, assessed, and effectively managed.
- Oversee the development and maintenance of clinical safety documentation and provide assurance to digital programmes, projects, and operational services
- Advise senior leaders, delivery teams and suppliers on clinical safety, clinical risk, and patient safety matters.
- Support the investigation of clinical safety incidents, ensuring lessons identified are embedded into future service delivery and continuous improvement activities.
