Job summary
(BCHC) is seeking enthusiastic, motivated and experienced HR professionals to join our Trust Bank as either a:
- Band 5 HR Advisor, or
- Band 6 Senior HR Advisor
depending on experience and skills demonstrated during the recruitment process.
This is a flexible Bank opportunity and not a permanent substantive position. Successful applicants will work on an "as and when required" basis to support operational HR services across the Trust.
This role is ideal for candidates with experience in employee relations and operational HR advisory work who are looking to broaden their generalist HR knowledge within a large, supportive NHS organisation.
The role may involve cross-site working across Birmingham and other Trust locations.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will provide professional and customer-focused HR advice and support to managers and staff across a broad range of workforce and employee relations matters.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Providing day-to-day HR advisory support to managers and staff
- Advising on Agenda for Change terms and conditions, Trust policies and employment legislation
- Supporting managers with disciplinary, grievance, capability and attendance management processes
- Assisting with investigations, hearings and case management activity
- Supporting managers with long and short-term sickness absence management
- Supporting organisational change and workforce transformation activity
- Delivering HR guidance and training to managers
- Producing reports and maintaining HR systems and workforce data
- Building effective working relationships with Trade Union representatives, Occupational Health and key stakeholders
Applicants should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a busy environment.
For Band 6 consideration, applicants should demonstrate experience managing more complex employee relations casework, supporting organisational change programmes and delivering HR training or project work.

The Trust will pay for your DBS as part of the pre-employment checks. When you commence in post, the cost of the DBS, will be deducted from your salary over 3 monthly instalments. The cost of the DBS including the administration fee is standard DBS £25.40 and enhanced £53.50.
Job responsibilities
The post holder will provide operational Human Resources support and advice across a range of employee relations and workforce matters.
Responsibilities will include advising managers and staff on:
- HR policies and procedures
- Employment legislation and best practice
- Agenda for Change terms and conditions
- Attendance management
- Disciplinary, grievance and capability matters
- Organisational change and workforce redesign
- Investigations and hearings
- Workforce reporting and HR systems
The successful candidate will manage a varied caseload, work collaboratively with HR colleagues and stakeholders, and contribute to the delivery of a responsive and professional HR service across the Trust.
The role requires the ability to work independently, prioritise workloads effectively and maintain excellent working relationships with managers, staff representatives and colleagues across the organisation.
