Job summary

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our bank Portering Team at Bronglais General Hospital, Aberystwyth.

The service providers 24 hours cover, therefore we'd have a range of shifts available, including nights, weekends and bank holidays.

Main duties of the job

Duties range from patient movement, security, driving,post room and waste collection, delivery/collection of food trolleys, linen and the delivery of patient records to ward / department areas.

Successful candidates will receive full training.

Successful candidates should be available with the need for flexibility in start times, working shifts and hours across the portering service between 07.00 to 07:00 hours. Weekends and bank holidays will also be included.

Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties.

We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services.

  • Five community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery hospitals in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron Hospital in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire hospitals in Pembrokeshire
  • Two integrated care centres: Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion, and several other community settings
  • 47 general practices (six of which are health board managed practices); dental practices (including four orthodontic); 97 community pharmacies; 43 general ophthalmic practices; and 8 ophthalmic domiciliary providers
  • Numerous mental health and learning disabilities services

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

  • Literate and numerate
  • Ability to undertake on the job training in Basic Health and Safety, COSHH, Moving and Handling and Food Hygiene knowledge

Desirable

  • Good level of general education
  • Food Safety Level 2 Certificate
  • Welcome Host Certificate
  • Health and Safety, COSHH, Moving and Handling training

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of dealing with the general public

Desirable

  • Similar portering experience or some care experience
  • Experience of handling difficult or violent persons
  • Training in similar portering duties

Language skills

Desirable

  • Welsh Speaker Level 1

Other

  • Flexible approach to needs of the service
  • Driving licence as required to drive Health Board vehicles
