The Business Support Manager will be key role within the R&D department, providing high-level, high-quality business and managerial support to the R&D Senior Core Team to enable them to carry out their functions effectively.

The postholder will support the R&D Senior Core Team in providing leadership and direction in relation to a delegated pieces of work in order to enable strategic decision making.

They will have a focus on supporting and managing business planning process relating in line with a delegated programme of work

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for supporting the programme of work and projects associated with the implementation of the 'Overarching Cancer Research and Development Ambitions 2021-2031'. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that clear and systemic processes are in place to support the business of operationalising the Cancer R&D Ambitions strategy and the Cancer R&D Integrated bid (monies secure from Velindre Charitable Funds). Working with internal and external partners, the postholder will support and contribute to the effective delivery of key business objectives in line with the Cancer R&D Ambitions strategy, the Cancer R&D Integrated Bid and the Integrated Medium-Term Plan (IMTP).

They will be the Project Manager for the Cardiff Cancer Research Partnership (CCRP) at UHW, recommended by the Nuffield Trust, which is enabling closer working with Cardiff & Vale UHB (CVUHB) and CU for delivery of Early Phase Clinical Trials, Advanced Therapies Trials and Translational Research (bench to bedside).

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

  • Educated to degree level and Postgraduate Diploma or equivalent experience
  • Prince 2 training (formal or informal, or willing to work towards attainment)
  • Knowledge of cancer research and development
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of UK Research strategies and policies
  • Evidence of further development - education/training
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.

Desirable

  • Willingness to complete an MSc
  • Change Management
  • Experience of monitoring performance indicators.
  • Understanding of project management methodologies.

  • Track record of developing strategic plans and in successfully managing and delivering large scale Programmes and Projects.
