Job summary

We are a busy GP practice in the centre of Handforth, looking to recruit an administrator to join our friendly and supportive team.

The post is for 30 hours per week and we are looking for someone with previous administration experience and experience of working in healthcare or a GP surgery would be ideal but is not essential as we will provide full training.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will ideally:

  • Have previous experience of working in a GP surgery.
  • Have basic computer skills and knowledge
  • Be able to multi task and prioritise workloads
  • Have a friendly yet professional manner both face to face on and the telephone
  • Be able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Be reliable

About us

Handforth Health Centre has a patient list size of approximatley 10500 patients, we have 10 GPs, an ANP, 3 Practice Nurses and 3 HCAs based in Handforth, Cheshire, close to Manchester Airport and on good commuter routes. We are a training practice for GP trainees.

We have a large reception and admin team to support our clinicians and we are part of CHAW Primary Care Network enabling us to work closely with other local practices on the delivery of care to our patients.

JOB SUMMARY

Contribute to the smooth and efficient operation of the practice by providing support and assistance to both the clinical and administrative teams in their delivery of high quality healthcare services to patients.

MAIN DUTIES

Carry out administrative tasks relating to patient records, including filing, document management and ensuring patients can access their health record

Scanning and coding of incoming clinical correspondence through the use of AI type software

Code clinical information onto the patient record

Follow process for recalling patients for review of long term health conditions and also including cytology, immunisations, health promotion campaigns e.g. flu clinics

Take action as directed by other team members

Follow practice protocols to ensure consistent and high quality care is provided to our patients

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience in an administrative role
  • Evidence of computer literacy and experience of using common programmes such as excel
  • Experience of prioritising tasks and meeting deadlines
  • Excellent accuracy and attention to detail, particularly in data entry
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Ability to work as part of an integrated multi-skilled team

Desirable

  • Previous experience of working in a healthcare setting
  • Previous experience of working in a GP practice

Qualifications

Essential

  • GCSE English or equivalent to current grade 4 or above

Desirable

  • Additional qualifications or training relevant to the role
