Charity Book Merchandise Sales Volunteer

Job summary

We are seeking friendly, reliable, and enthusiastic volunteers to support our NHS charity by helping to operate the Charity Book & Merchandise Stall located in the main hospital entrance.

The stall provides an important fundraising opportunity, generating income that enables the charity to support patients, families, carers, staff, and hospital services. The role will provide volunteers with the opportunity to make a positive contribution by engaging with patients, visitors, and staff while helping to raise awareness of the charity's work.

Volunteers will provide a welcoming and friendly presence within the hospital entrance, helping to create a positive experience for patients, relatives, carers, and visitors.

Through supporting the stall, volunteers will:

• Generate additional income to support charity-funded projects and initiatives.
• Increase awareness of the charity and the support it provides across the whole Trust
• Provide patients, visitors, and staff with an opportunity to engage with and support the charity.
• Enhance the overall patient experience by offering a helpful and approachable point of contact.

The volunteer opportunity requires a commitment of up to 4 hours each Tuesday morning, ideally between 10:00 and 14:00. Exact hours will be agreed with the department to suit the needs of the service and the availability of the volunteer.

Main duties of the job

The volunteer will support the running of the charity stall by:

• Welcoming and assisting patients, visitors, and staff who visit the stall.
• Supporting sales transactions accurately, including the safe handling of cash and card/contactless transactions.
• Maintaining a clean, tidy, and attractive stall presentation
• Ensuring stock is displayed effectively and replenished when required.
• Promoting the charitys work and providing information about opportunities to support the charity, including donations where appropriate.
• Providing information about the charity and directing enquiries to the appropriate team members.
• Creating a friendly and positive environment within the hospital entrance.

Training will be given on the following:

The role requires annual face to face completion of MAST training which includes:

• Information Governance
• Infection Prevention
• Moving and Handling
• Fire Safety
• Health and Safety
• Conflict Resolution

Cash handling procedures and guidance on using the contactless payment terminal.

An introduction to the NHS charity, including its purpose, fundraising activities, and the impact of donations.

Guidance on engaging with patients, visitors, and supporters.

Information on who to contact for support or assistance while volunteering.
