Job summary

This trust is looking to recruit a skilled and passionate chef to join our catering team, predominantly based at Hull Royal Infirmary.

The successful candidate will work various shifts to cover the service delivery requirements. The department(s) operate from 0600 through to 1800 7days a week including public holidays.

Hull University Teaching Hospitals Trust Catering department are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and highly motivated Chef Supervisor, passionate about fresh food, to manage the day to day operations of the kitchens, hospitality services and food production for retail outlets.

Main duties of the job

You will be joining a team of supervisors and catering assistants that provide a retail and hospitality service throughout the hospital sites.

The successful applicant will support the Trust Retail Catering Management team and lead the back of house operations, including fresh food cookery to a high standard, leading a team of catering assistants to ensure efficient operations and being responsbile for stock and ordering in line with budgetary targets.

The hospitals (Castle Hill Hospital & Hull Royal Infirmary) have 2 restaurants & 5 cafes

A brand new restaurant has recently been created at the Hull Royal Infirmary site to meet the ever growing demands of the HUTH Trust.

The service operating hours meet the needs of the fluctuating services and are a mixture of Monday to Friday or 7 day service including public holidays.

The successful applicants must be flexible and able to work between both sites, it would be advantageous to have access to transport for travel but not essential.

Person Specification

Education/ Qualifications

Essential

  • Level 2 or above Food Hygiene Certificate or equivalent.
  • General education to GCSE standard.

Desirable

  • Level 3 Food Hygiene Certificate.
  • NVQ in Food Preparation and Cooking level 3

Knowledge, Training & Experience

Essential

  • Experience (through placements or employment) of working in a busy environment.
  • Experience of managing a team within a food sales/preparation business.
  • Experience with ordering supplies and stock control.
  • Proven experience of working to deadlines and problem solving.
  • Experience with using IT systems such as Microsoft packages

Desirable
