A very rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and experienced Health Care Support Worker to join our fantastic and expanding team and develop into the role of Child Development Assistant (CDA)

The Child Development Service (CDS) serves children with complex needs, physical or neurodiversity and their families in the Bradford district. We are a team made up of Doctors, Nurses,Preparation for Adulthood Team, and Child Development Assistants.

The team work collaboratively alongside other agencies, striving to provide an excellent service for children and young people (CYP) and their families. As a team we work closely with families in order to ensure that the specific health needs of the CYP are met through assessment and the formulation of individualised treatment plans which promote independence. Additionally, our expert team signpost to the appropriate support of outside agencies and organisations, including social care and the voluntary sector.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, be trustworthy and professional, and have the ability to use available resources to provide a consistent and safe service to the children and families of the Bradford district, while supporting in doctor and nurse led clinics.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with children with complex needs/ disability
  • Experience of working as part of a team
  • Experience of dealing with members of the public

Desirable

  • Experience of working in the NHS
  • Experience, knowledge and awareness of patient care/need e.g. patient monitoring

Skills

Essential

  • Basic IT skills (e.g. ability to type and word process to an acceptable standard)
  • Numeracy skills (demonstrated through qualifications or experience)
  • Good verbal and written command of English
  • Ability to plan/organise own and delegated workload and work under pressure in a busy environment in a professional manner
  • Aware of own strengths and limitations/levels of competence
  • Ability to respond to changes in patient condition
  • Motivation, reliability and ability to work as part of a team
  • Flexibility and adaptability
  • Awareness of the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Understands the limits of the job role. Has the ability to recognise situations that require reporting and demonstrates the ability to escalate to a senior person where appropriate

Desirable

  • Experience with manual handling
  • Experience of using EPR
  • Experience of record keeping and documentation, or willingness to learn
  • Ability to carry out and report on observations/tests

Qualifications

Essential

  • Care certificate (or willingness to undertake in a timeframe as outlined by the trust)
  • Minimum NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent in Childcare

Knowledge

Essential

  • Good understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality
  • Understanding of equality and diversity issues and how this affects patients, visitors and staff
  • Understanding of what the NHS Constitution means to you, and your responsibilities to the public, patients and colleagues.
