Community Phlebotomist - Apprenticeship Opportunity

NHS

Job Description

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust as a Community Phlebotomist across our Community Nursing Services.

Our Community Phlebotomy Team provides an important service to housebound patients across the community, supporting patients to access essential healthcare within the comfort of their own home or residential care setting.

The Community Phlebotomy Service operates across 7 days, with working hours between 7:30am and 6:00pm.

Previous phlebotomy or community healthcare experience is desirable, however full training and competency support will be provided for the right candidate.

If you do not already hold a Level 2 qualification, or equivalent relevant experience, RDaSHcan offer this role alongside the opportunity to complete a relevant Level 2 apprenticeship qualification.

As an apprentice within the Trust, you will gain valuable practical experience, develop work-related skills and receive the support and training needed to build a successful career within the NHS. Apprenticeships include regular learning with a college or training provider, with approximately 20% of working hours dedicated to study and development, leading to a nationally recognised qualification.

Whether you are joining the NHS for the first time or already work within the Trust, this opportunity offers an excellent pathway to develop your skills, knowledge and career within community healthcare.

Main duties of the job

The Community Phlebotomist will work across a variety of community settings, including patients' own homes and residential care homes, to obtain venous blood samples safely and effectively.

The role also includes undertaking basic clinical observations, where required, under the guidance and supervision of a registered nurse.

The post holder will work closely with nursing and multidisciplinary teams to support the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care across community services. This is a rewarding opportunity to work as part of a supportive and developing community service, delivering compassionate care and making a meaningful difference to patients who may otherwise struggle to access appointments.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain competence within the role through completion of role-specific training, supervision and competency assessments relevant to the clinical area of practice.

The role requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a compassionate approach to patient care and the ability to work independently within community settings.
