Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join our Adult SLT Service, delivering a mixed caseload across Community Services and Head and Neck and Voice pathways. The post holder will provide specialist input for individuals with head and neck cancer, voice disorders, and related conditions, while also managing a broader community caseload across Morecambe Bay. This role requires flexibility, strong clinical reasoning, and the ability to work autonomously across different care pathways while contributing to multidisciplinary working and service development. This post is ideal for an SLT with post-qualification experience who is looking to further develop specialist skills while working across varied and rewarding caseloads. You will be supported through regular supervision, peer support, and access to continuing professional development.

Main duties of the job

*Independently assess, diagnose, and manage adults with speech, language, voice, and swallowing difficulties across the Community and Head, Neck and Voice pathways*Provide specialist input for patients with head and neck cancer, voice disorders, and complex communication needs, within agreed competencies*Manage defined caseloads, prioritising clinical need and service demands*Deliver evidence-based interventions in a range of settings, including patient's homes, community venues and outpatient clinics*Use a range of delivery methods, including face-to-face, telephone and video consultations, in line with Trust policy*Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary teams, contributing to care planning and service delivery* Contribute to service development, audit, and quality improvement activities* Support and supervise Band 5 SLTs, students, and support staff as appropriate* Maintain accurate, timely clinical records in line with Trust and professional standards

About us

We operatefrom three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, andUlverstonCommunity Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies,daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Our Community Service for adults are provided in people's homes ,community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent , improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care , advice and support.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Speech and Language Therapy approved by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT)
  • Registered with HPC
  • On-going membership with the RCSLT
  • Has dysphagia training competency that is recognised in the UK

Desirable

  • Membership of specialist interest groups.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with adults with a wide range of communication and swallowing disorders
  • Experience of working in a wide range of settings including acute hospitals, community hospitals, clinics and patients' homes.
  • Experience of working in the community
