Job summary

An opportunity has arisen to join our team principally based at Colchester Hospital but may be required to undertake some clinical or non-clinical activities at Ipswich Hospital.

We are inviting applications for a full time Trauma & Orthopaedic Consultant with an interest in hip and knee arthroplasty with more subspecialist skills in knee surgery.

Provisional interview date 6th July.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be expected to work within and help develop the knee revision service as well as offer other aspects of specialist knee surgery such as soft tissue reconstruction. Primary hip arthroplasty would be desirable but not essential. They will be required to work in collaboration with the wider MDT.

The post holder will be expected to attend and contribute to the department's clinical meetings, audits and clinical governance and in particular help develop an academic unit.

The post-holder will be expected to work with colleagues and the Clinical Lead & Director to ensure the service is delivered in line with best practice. The appointee will be largely based at Colchester Hospital but may be required to undertake clinical and non-clinical work at other sites such as Clacton/Ipswich and will be expected to work flexibly.

This role involves a one in 12 on calls (adult and paediatric trauma). They will be expected to deal with the general trauma as well as subspecialty trauma including periprosthetic fractures.

Person Specification

  • Entry on Specialist Register (or entry expected within 6 months of interview date)
  • FRCS(Tr&Orth) or Equivalent
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining CCT/CESR
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Enquiring, critical approach to work
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies
  • Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional, or national levels
  • Educational/Clinical Supervisor (the necessary training will be provided for applicants that have not undertaken these roles previously)
  • Good interpersonal Skills
  • Commitment to continuing Medical Education
