Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arose to offer a full time permanent employment for an Intensivist Consultant or Locum Consultant (23 month term)to work with our already established team of 5 consultant/ Senior Decision Makers. You will work to cover the service of Intensive care, where we operateLevel 2 care as an interim measure, witha stabilise and transfer model for the management ofcomplex airway(Level 3 care)to our main site hospital. All other patients remain within the services of the local facility. The role is covering a 1:5 non resident rota with the support of a SAS resident on call team and a daytime ACCP service for ITU alongside daytime Critical Care Outreach service.

Main duties of the job

You will participate in a 1:8 Senior Decision Maker Rota including prospective cover.

You will join a team of 8 Consultants with several Specialists and Specialty Doctors supporting all general services of the hospital including a busy Accident and Emergency department, Theatres covering maternity, Gynaecology, Orthopaedic and trauma, ophthalmology and ENT.

On-call shifts provide non-residential cover of emergency ITU, supervising a dedicated resident anaesthetist.

Lead Assessments of the deteriorating patient for emergency admission to the Intensive Care Unit.
- Level 2 Care in place locally, treat and transfer model operates to transfer Level 3 Patients to our Royal Lancaster Infirmary Site.

Lead the team in managing pre and post operative theatre admissions.

Participate in clinical audit, governance and quality improvement.

Demonstrate evidence-based practice where appropriate.

Undertake and participate in the appraisal process and job planning.

Satisfy the criteria for revalidation.

Contribute to service development in areas of special interest and expertise.

Actively participate in continuing medical education.

Essential
- Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
- FICM or an equivalent qualification
- FRCA or an equivalent appropriate higher anaesthetic qualification
Desirable
- Higher Postgraduate professional qualifications in research or Education
Training and experience
Essential
- ICM recognised formal training in intensive care medicine or equivalent
- Experience in the management of Trauma and other surgical emergencies
- Broad exposure to anaesthesia particularly for laproscopic surgery, emergency surgical and obstetric emergencies.
- Evidence of involvement and experience in audit

- Knowledge of and interest in medical education
