Job summary

This is a new replacement post to provide ward responsibility to one of our general medical/COTE wards and develop a joint acute frailty front door service in response to the Welsh Government 6 Goals initiative. The post holder will also participate in the 1 in 12 on call rota.

Main duties of the job

The aim of this post is to provide a spectrum of flexible and responsive services for the Medical Directorate at YYF for all age groups across the Health Board, specifically:

  • A comprehensive Acute Medicine Service for the Borough of Caerphilly
  • Development and clinical delivery of comprehensive geriatric services at YYF
  • Support the running of the Medical Assessment Unit (MAU) and participate in the Adult Medicine take 7 days a week
  • The post holder will participate in GIM on-call one in 12 on call rota. Weekend on site presence is provided by an AM and PM session one in 12 pro-rota basis
  • Acute inpatient assessment and treatment and will be based in ward 3.1 and working closely with one other Consultant Physician colleague
  • The post holder will also develop a MAU/acute frailty service up to 2 sessions per week.
  • Support and training of medical staff, nurses and other members of the MDT
  • To provide effective leadership to multidisciplinary staff members
  • To develop teaching and research with the organisation
