We are looking for a qualified counsellor to join our team, who offer support to patients and their relatives and friends, at The Myton Hospices.
This is a flexible role to enable the team to meet the demands of our waiting list. Bank staff members are crucial to the effective running of our service.
About you
We would love to hear from you if you have:
- Professional diploma in Counselling at level 4 or above
- BACP / NCPS registration or equivalent
- Regular engagement with CPD (continuing professional development)
- Experience of working with loss and grief
- Experience of working face to face, online or on the phone
- Multidisciplinary team working skills
- The right to work in the UK (we cannot provide sponsorship)
Experience of working with children or young people would be advantageous but is not essential.
This role will require an enhanced DBS check including the children's and adults' barred lists, because you will be delivering a counselling service for adults and children. We will arrange and cover the cost of this check if you are offered the role.
Main duties of the job
As a Bank Counsellor, a typical day might include:
- Seeing 3-5 clients at one of our hospice sites
- Assessing clients' needs
- Delivering quality counselling sessions
- Keeping accurate records

At The Myton Hospices, we provide specialist care and support for people with life-limiting illnesses, and their loved ones, from the point of diagnosis to end of life. We are a much-loved and well supported charity, at the heart of our community. We have three hospices, a range of community services, and 26 charity shops in Coventry and Warwickshire.

Job responsibilities
Role Purpose / Overview:
To provide counselling, family support and bereavement/aftercare to patients and their families at the Myton Hospices, as directed by the Counselling Service Lead supported by the Intake Practitioner.
The post-holder will at all times practice with care, compassion, competence, good communication, courage and commitment.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- To maintain a clinical caseload including one-to-one counselling, group, and family support work, as directed by the Counselling Service Lead.
- To respond to referrals appropriately, according to service policy.
- To communicate effectively with appropriate members of the Multi-Disciplinary Team and volunteers, whilst maintaining strict client confidentiality according to BACP Guidelines.
- To communicate effectively with patients and carers.
- To work closely with, and provide cover during annual leave or sickness, for other members of the Counselling team as requested by the Counselling Service Lead.
- To assist in the continuing development of the Counselling, Bereavement & Family Support Service.
- To work with the other Counsellors and the Counselling Lead, to plan, facilitate and deliver Childrens Bereavement Workshops and Memorial Days.
- To prioritise, organise self and workload to ensure effective service delivery.
- To maintain an efficient record system, on the electronic medical records; Crosscare, including the filing and handling of confidential documents.
- To maintain confidentiality according to BACP Guidelines.
- To abide by professional code of conduct at all times.
- To demonstrate commitment to continuing professional development and attend training sessions as identified by the Line Manager.
- To attend all annual mandatory training specific to your role.
- To have a good understanding of and comply with all relevant Myton policies, procedures and guidelines. Any contravention of Myton policies or procedures may result in disciplinary action.
- To support and work effectively with volunteers.
- To be aware of the responsibilities placed upon self under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, to ensure the agreed safety procedures are carried out in order to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors and colleagues.
- To represent Myton in a positive light and embody the corporate identity in appearance, demeanour, values and ethics.

Experience
Essential
- Experience of working with loss and bereavement
- Ability to carry out assessments and provide high-quality counselling
- Experience of working virtually, face to face, and on the phone
- Experience of multidisciplinary team working
Desirable
- Experience of audit and research
- Experience of service improvement
- Experience of working with children and young people
- 2 years' post-qualification experience of working as a Counsellor
Qualifications

- Professional diploma in Counselling at level 4 or above
- BACP registration or equivalent and working towards accreditation
- Evidence of continual professional development and education

- Valid UK driving licence and a suitable vehicle for work (or other reliable means of transport to Coventry, Warwick and Rugby Myton Hospices sites when required)
- Ability to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends
