Dispenser (GP Surgery)

Job summary
Oak Tree Surgery and Pensilva Health Centre are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic qualified Dispenser to join our expanding friendly and dynamic team. The successful candidate will be based at Pensilva Health Centre 3-4 days per week Monday - Friday (days to be confirmed) between 8am-6pm (27-36 hour per week contract).
To be responsible for the processing of prescriptions in accordance with practice policy and extant legislation. In addition, the post-holder will be required to support the Dispensary Lead in ensuring a high-level of service is delivered at all times, whilst supporting the multi-disciplinary team in line with the strategic objectives of the practice.
Main duties of the job
The following are the core responsibilities of the Dispenser. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
- To be responsible for checking all medicines dispensed, ensuring there are no discrepancies
- Dispensing medications safely and accurately to registered patients in our local community
- Collecting prescription charges in accordance with dispensary protocol
- Maintaining stock levels within the dispensary, liaising with the dispensary lead to facilitate reordering
- Receiving and storing supplies in accordance with current policy, ensuring the cold chain is maintained where applicable
- Ensuring controlled drugs are dispensed with in accordance with practice policy
- Safe disposal of returned and / or out of date medicines
- Ensuring all repeat prescriptions are processed within a 5 working days timeframe
- Providing patients with advice regarding all prescription matters
- Process prescription requests via email, face-to-face and online
- Assisting the Dispensary Lead in the preparation of monthly returns
- Maintaining a clean and safe working environment at all times
- Maintain accurate records at all times, read coding entries appropriately

Essential
- Level 2 Dispensary/Pharmacy NVQ qualification
- Ability to fulfil criteria outlined in the Job Description
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent organisation skills
- Level of English language competency and communication skills necessary to perform this role safely and effectively

- Excellent Planning /organisational and problem solving skills
- Excellent IT skills including MS Office and web-based technology

Desirable
- Knowledge of Titan PMR or the processing of prescriptions electronically
- Experience of working in primary care

Qualifications
Essential
- Candidates must have completed the Level 2 Dispensary/Pharmacy NVQ qualification and completed their 1000 dispenser training hours. Candidates who do not meet this criteria need not apply.
