Job summary
The Head of Clinical Engineering - EBME provides strategic, professionaland operational leadership for all Clinical Engineering services across the Trust. This role ensures the safe, effective, and financially sustainable lifecycle management of all medical devices and laboratory instrumentation, from procurement and commissioning through to maintenance, governance, risk management, and disposal.
The post-holder is the Trust's senior expert for medical device safety, regulation, and engineering governance, leading a multi-disciplinary workforce and overseeing a large, complex asset base. They will shape long-term strategy, deliver high-quality engineering services, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive innovation, digital integration, and value-for-money across the organisation.

- Strategic Leadership & Service Development
- Strategic direction -- Lead the Trust-wide Clinical Engineering strategy, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives, digital transformation programmes, and national medical device safety priorities.
- Service transformation -- Develop and deliver multi-year service improvement plans, including workforce development, digital asset management, and modernisation of engineering services.
- Innovation leadership -- Drive adoption of emerging technologies, device connectivity, and integration with clinical systems, working closely with Digital, Estates, and clinical divisions.
- Corporate representation -- Act as the senior engineering representative at Trust committees, regional networks, and national forums.
2. Governance, Regulation & Medical Device Safety
- Serve as the Trust's Medical Device Safety Officer (MDSO) with full accountability for compliance with MHRA, CQC, ISO standards, and national safety frameworks

Knowledge /Experience

- Significant experience in managerial roles for EBME services estates functions
Desirable
- Relevant or similar NHS post
- Understanding of acute hospitals EBME systems
Qualifications
Essential
- Minimum of Master degree level or demonstrable experience/HND/HNC in EBME relevant subject
Desirable
- Membership of a professional Engineering (Chartered) organisation
- Management qualification

- HTM appointments
- Ability to think clearly and work strategically
- Ability to influence and negotiate at a senior level, analyse and report on complex data
