At the Ethnic Minority Research Inclusion (EMRI) network we believe for health and care research to be effective we need representation from all communities, in all different types of research, so we know that if something works, it works for everyone.

We've developed our work programme and priorities based on what the research community and local communities have told us, aiming to make research more accessible and open.

Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH) are proud to host the EMRI Network. Previously hosted by the National Institute for Health and Care (NIHR) Yorkshire and Humber Research Delivery Network (RDN), EMRI is a regional initiative dedicated to improving the inclusivity of research across our communities. Its mission is to ensure that people from all backgrounds, particularly those historically under-represented, have better opportunities to participate in, shape, and benefit from health and care research.

We are looking for a Project Manager (or 2 Project Managers to job share) to manage the day-to-day management of EMRI and Business Development and welcome applications from people with relevant experience.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide project management of the EMRI programme via:

The leadership of the EMRI team, consisting of the EMRI Coordinator, EMRI Hub Leads for South, East and West Yorkshire and the EMRI Languages Lead.

Ensuring programmes of research within each footprint are aligned with the EMRI strategy and mission.

Management of the EMRI budget to ensure accurate financial planning and balanced income and expenditure, including reporting on progress to funders and providing costings for new projects and initiatives.

Lead on plans for financial stability of the EMRI network and individual EMRI programmes.

Management of commercialisation plans for EMRI programmes, e.g. Cultural competency, Reverse Mentorship and Languages and Dialect.

Management of stakeholders, projects and processes to ensure the sustainability and growth of EMRI

Establishing and maintaining collaborations with various research initiatives and partners to further improve the quality and impact of EMRI.

Lead the business development and marketing of EMRI through a clear approach to selling services.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • MSc level qualification in health related or biomedical science or equivalent through training and research experience.
  • Project Management qualification or equivalent specialist experience.

Desirable

  • Educated at a PhD level in Health/ Biomedical Sciences related subject or equivalent specialist experience.

Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience of clinical research in the NHS, Academic or commercial environment.
  • Experience of Project management of complex projects / programmes
  • Experience of managing grant submissions and awards
  • In depth specialist knowledge via experience of research techniques, analysis and the use of information across the NHS
  • Experience of working collaboratively with internal and external partners
  • Experience of working to achieve agreed objectives with freedom to operate, within broad professional or organisational policies
  • Experience in chairing multi-disciplinary meetings and preparing complex papers and reports
  • Experience of process development to improve the efficiency and quality of the service delivered
  • Experience of monitoring a budget and reporting on spend
  • Experience of managing and/or mentoring colleagues
  • Experience of working with the EMRI network and / or the broader field of EDI

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of research legislation including research governance, GCP, Medicines for Human use (Clinical Trials) Regulations, Data Protection, Human Tissue Act, Mental Capacity Act
  • Understanding and commitment to the need for information governance and confidentiality
  • Knowledge of research processes and research methods applicable to healthcare setting

Desirable

  • Knowledge of NHS infrastructure, policies, procedures, aims and objectives
  • Knowledge of research funding systems
  • Knowledge of existing regional and national research initiatives, infrastructures and networks
  • Knowledge of the NHS Intellectual Property Guidance and commercialisation routes.

Skills & Abilities

Essential

  • Ability to acquire in-depth knowledge of projects and protocols and to communicate this to professionals and lay persons
  • Ability to interpret and communicate highly complex information effectively at all levels and overcome barriers to understanding
  • Ability to analyse, investigate and resolve complex statistical/analytical/queries and issues/problems, where there are a range of solutions/resolutions where there is no precedent or where leading opinions may conflict.
  • Ability to manage a diverse workload and to meet set deadlines on own initiative and without close supervision
  • Excellent attention to detail, whilst maintaining the ability to see the bigger picture
  • Leadership skills and the ability to motivate others and demonstrate honesty and integrity
  • Experience of PC applications such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint, using skills at an advanced level of expertise
  • Ability to make decisions and show considerable initiative in the formulation of recommendations and subsequent actions
  • Ability to build successful working relations and rapport with a wide variety of individuals from a range of roles

Desirable

  • Ability to develop and adapt ways of working in line with strategic objectives
