Job summary

Park House Surgery, Prestatyn is a friendly, growing practice, serving over 9000 patients on the beautiful North Wales coast. We have a vacancy for a salaried GP, 6 sessions per week. We are a GMS practice with 2 GP partners with excellent ANP, and nursing staff. Appointments are scheduled at 10-minute intervals, with a total of 27 patient contacts per day, split between morning and afternoon surgeries. In addition to face-to-face and telephone consultations, the successful candidate would be expected to undertake the associated administrative workload, including reviewing test results, managing prescriptions, processing clinical correspondence and completing referral letters. The post offers the opportunity to develop continuity of care and strong patient relationships while contributing meaningfully to the ongoing delivery of high-quality primary care services across the practice population.

This post is ideal for newly qualified and experienced GPs looking to develop their clinical and professional skills in a supportive environment. Park House is a training practice, supporting medical students from Cardiff, Bangor and Swansea Universities.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will provide comprehensive, patient-centred primary care services to the practice population, undertaking routine and urgent consultations through face-to-face, telephone and digital appointments as appropriate. Main duties will include the assessment, diagnosis and management of acute and chronic medical conditions, prescribing and medication reviews, interpretation of investigations and test results, and the coordination of ongoing patient care. The role also involves completing clinical administration, including referral letters, and the review of correspondence from secondary care providers. The successful candidate will contribute to the effective functioning of the practice by participating in multidisciplinary team working, clinical governance, quality improvement initiatives, and practice meetings, while maintaining accurate clinical records and complying with professional, contractual and regulatory requirements. The postholder will be expected to work collaboratively with GP partners, nursing staff, allied health professionals and administrative colleagues to deliver safe, high-quality healthcare and promote continuity of care for patients.

Job responsibilities

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

  • Provide face-to-face and telephone consultations for patients presenting with acute and chronic medical conditions.

  • Assess, diagnose and manage a broad range of health problems in primary care.

  • Prescribe medication safely and appropriately in line with current guidelines.

  • Undertake medication reviews and management of long-term conditions.

  • Request, interpret and act upon investigations and diagnostic results.

  • Make referrals to secondary care, community services and allied healthcare professionals where appropriate.

  • Promote health education, disease prevention and patient self-management.

  • Maintain accurate and contemporaneous electronic clinical records.

Administrative Duties

  • Review and action pathology results, imaging reports and incoming clinical correspondence.

  • Complete referral letters, and other clinical documentation.

  • Manage prescription requests and associated medication queries.

  • Undertake appropriate follow-up of patients and outstanding clinical actions.

Practice Responsibilities

  • Participate in practice meetings and multidisciplinary team discussions.

  • Contribute to clinical governance, audit and quality improvement activities.

  • Support the achievement of contractual and quality standards.

  • Work collaboratively with GP partners, nursing staff, pharmacists and administrative teams.

  • Contribute to service development and continuous improvement within the practice.

Workload

  • Six clinical sessions per week.

  • Approximately 27 patient appointments per day, split across two clinics.

  • Standard appointment length of 10 minutes.

  • Associated administration, correspondence and results management responsibilities.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Maintain GMC registration and licence to practise.

  • Remain on the NHS Wales Medical Performers List.

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council - GMC, with a licence to practise.
  • MRCGP or equivalent recognised qualification.
