Job summary

  • The role can be based at any of our three hospices with hybrid working.
  • Required to travel between sites to collaborate with colleagues, so a current full, valid driving license and car is essential.
  • Salary:£43,000 - £50,000 FTE per annum, experience dependent (pro rata for part time).
  • Full Time & Part Time applicants considered - minimum 30 hours/4 days per week
  • Monday to Friday but with flexibility for weekend and evening events as required

We are looking for a Head of Supporter Engagement to lead and grow our public fundraising activity and deepen meaningful relationships with our supporters.

Main duties of the job

This is a senior leadership role within our Fundraising team, responsible for shaping and delivering our Public Fundraising strategy.

Leading a team of fundraisers, developing clear plans and approaches to grow income, strengthen supporter engagement, and ensure a high standard of donor care.

The role has overall responsibility for generating circa £2.3 million annually and for building strong, collaborative relationships across Finance, Marketing & Communications, and operational teams to deliver shared goals.

  • Leading and delivering a forward-thinking supporter engagement strategy aligned to our wider fundraising plans
  • Managing and developing a team, supporting performance, learning and continuous improvement
  • Overseeing budgets, income performance and financial planning
  • Strengthening supporter journeys to build long-term engagement and loyalty
  • Working collaboratively across teams to maximise fundraising opportunities
  • Ensuring all activity meets legal and regulatory requirements, including the Code of Fundraising Practice
  • Staying informed about sector trends and identifying new opportunities for growth

Job responsibilities

  • Deliver the Public Fundraising Fundraising strategy, aligned with the overall Fundraising strategy to achieve annual budget.
  • Lead and manage the Fundraising team to ensure the successful day to day management and development of the team and successful delivery of the new five-year Fundraising strategy (including performance management, line management and staff development).
  • Ensure effective operational plans are developed for each Fundraising area to deliver the aims and objectives of the overall strategy.
  • Manage income and expenditure budgets to ensure the effective allocation and tracking of fundraising revenue.
  • Lead and maintain a culture of high standards of donor care and stewardship to encourage long-term engagement and life-time value.
  • Work effectively with the Head of Philanthropy and Partnerships and Head of Fundraising Operations to ensure collaborative communication and success across Fundraising.
  • Ensure all fundraising adheres to legal requirements and the Code of Fundraising Practice set by the Fundraising Regulator.
  • Demonstrate leadership, management and personal behaviours that are in line with EACH values.
  • Work closely with the EACH operational management teams, attending appropriate meetings, ensuring good channels of communication between Operational Managers and Fundraising are maintained.
  • Keep up-to-date on best practice within the charity sector with a focus on supporter engagement and fundraising, highlighting trends and insight that could inform planning and support the team with the development of new ideas and practices.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience leading, motivating, and managing multi-disciplinary teams and engaging senior internal stakeholders.
  • Experience in developing and implementing long-term, data driven fundraising strategies and operational plans to achieve ambitious income targets.
  • Experience managing large income and expenditure budgets, including forecasting, monitoring performance against KPIs, and ensuring financial targets are met.
  • Experience in developing and delivering effective supporter journeys and income growth across departments.

Desirable

  • Working knowledge of the fundraising software, Raisers Edge.

  • Expertise in building effective and transparent relationships with colleagues and supporters.
  • Expertise in fundraising, focused in Events, Community, Lottery, Legacy & In Memory and Individual Giving.
  • A deep understanding of relevant fundraising markets, trends, regulations (e.g., GDPR,
  • Fundraising Code of Practice), and best practices.

Desirable

  • Fundraising or Marketing Qualification.
  • Member of the Institute of Fundraising.

Other requirements

Essential

  • Current full, valid driving license and own car essential.
  • Able to travel and to attend events out of the area and out of office hours, including Bank Holidays, evenings and weekends, and to have an overnight stay when required.
